This show has some problems with the fact they completely changed her power set, and it's writing (shocker with a Disney+ show) but aside from that it's pretty good especially with the creativity shown throughout the show, but man they also found a gem with Iman Vellani! In Episode 2, when Nakia lists Rome, Greece, Byzantium, and Persia in history class and the first 2 as oppressors, it made me cringe so hard as a history nerd. This isn’t a grifter-style nitpick, but it’s just not historically accurate. Rome? Absolutely, they’re the textbook example of an oppressive empire. Byzantium? That was Eastern Rome, carrying on the same imperial legacy after The West collapsed. Persia? Was the biggest oppressor in its heyday especially in their domination of regions like Mesopotamia and their wars with Greece. But Greece? That’s a stretch. For most of its history, Greece was fractured city-states, often conquered or dominated by others (including Persia and Rome, post Alexander), until Alexander briefly united them. His empire was so short-lived it’s hard to call it an enduring oppressor compared to Rome and Persia. This feels like an oversimplification to fit a modern narrative about the past. It was just an offhanded comment, but I feel this type of rewritting of history leads to so much of todays discourse and lets grifters drive a wedge over stuff that is unbelivably true when it comes to unique stories surrounding marginalized groups. That said, Nakia makes a great point that American curriculum often ignore Middle Eastern history, despite its enormous contributions to math, science, and culture.

In the original comics she is actually a polymorph similar to Mr. Fantastic but she can actually change size, color, and basically turn into whoever she wants Her original origin was her going to a party with all her friends that are in the show until The Terrigen Mist came by and started turning people into Inhumans. After waking up from her cacoon she decided to put on the persona of Ms. Marvel (Ms. Marvel was Captain Marvels og name before she changed it) by changing herself to look like her.
