Unfortunately, we as humans don't get to choose how we feel, just what we do about and with those feelings. Being literally unable to express those feelings to anyone at all is how you spiral into suicidality, and even that is barred from this idiot. I might go on a tweaker power trip myself after a few rounds or so of literal death. That said, Subaru is a dumb idiot. But he's our dumb idiot. He's not the protag we need, but he's the one we deserve: a deeply flawed and fucked-up moron.

Like it is INSANELY cringey and has caused A LOT of people to drop the series right here, but it sets such a perfect tone for what the series is. All episode, Subaru was acting like this was HIS story. He has Main character Syndrome. Thats why he belts out all these cheesy speeches and thinks he can get away with insulting nobility and attacking people he doesn't know. And the story does amazing at presenting it from his perspective. Like Julius is set up as this pretty boy noble knight who is "flirting" with Emilia. In reality, he's just a dude who's performing his duties. Subaru still thinks he is a generic Isekai mc. No you aren't Kirito lil bro. You are a dorky teenager with no life, combat or magic skills and this is not an isekai where you get everything handed to you.
