Let's go back to East Blue when we first met him. He CHOSE to make the weakest Sea his base of operations. With his rep, he could have made a name in the New World after Roger's execution. The last thing Buggy would have ever wanted, was to be a Yonko, it just got thrusted onto him because his subordinates made him stand out on the Cross Guild poster and the Govt was like "So, looks like Buggy is the leader then". That is pure misfortune for a dude that literally wanted to be the third string to the Mihawk-Crocodile Alliance. He didn't become a Yonko on purpose, he became one on accident. Now yeah, when the prisoners were glazing him, he did play into it, but even then, it still bites him in the ass till this day. His devil fruit, he ate on pure accident. The dude has the worst luck and the greatest misfortune in storytelling, which is that he is doomed to fail upwards, so no matter how much he fails, somehow, some way, he still benefits. Case in point, becoming an Emperor.

2025-08-24 23:49:42 +0000 UTCA thought occurred to me as I was thinking about how Luffy 100% allows Nami to beat the shit out of him - Nami is the singular non-combatant on the crew. She will participate in a fight, but literally only as a last resort - if possible, she will always allow another crew member to fight in her place, and it has gotten to the point now where her weapon literally fights for her, so she doesn't have to fight at all. But Nami is also the only one that Luffy allows to beat him, because he's aware that if she's hitting him, he probably deserves it. Funny how the non-fighter with the lowest bounty on the crew (outside Chopper's meme bounty) is the only one stronger than the captain, one of the Four Emperors of the Sea.

In several months this rubber dude has defeated 2 warlords in Crocodile and Moria, declared war on the world government, punched a celestial dragon, broke into and out of the most secure prison in the world freeing hundreds of prisoners, was one of the central figures in a major war, is the brother of Ace(son of Gol D Roger), brother to a high ranking revolutionary army member, son of the most heinous criminal in the world, defeated one of your top assassin/spy networks in cypher pol. He then shows back up with the right hand man of Roger, Rayleigh. And then randomly disappears for 2 years. Comes back, makes an alliance with Trafalger Law, a warlord, defeats Doflomingo, another warlord, makes an Admiral bow publicly on tv, invades a Yonko territory with Big Mom, then goes to Wano and frees the land/defeats a Yonko
