Alicia, your 2 theories early in this reaction are actually pretty good theories, especially this early on in the show with what info you currently had. My first theory is that the first time Subaru met Emilia the reason she said her name was Satella was because she wasn't Emilia. Before Subaru died the first time, she was Satella. She survived the incident, heartbroken from losing Subaru, becomes the Witch of Envy, however many years go by, she brings back Subaru and starts him on his journey in current day where he meets Emilia for the first time getting her confused with Satella. Obviously there are problems with this theory. Everyone involved the first time round is there for the 2nd and 3rd and so on. Events without his involvement happen exactly the same, and 'Satella' clearly expected a different reaction from Subaru when she told him her name was Satella meaning she was still Emilia. My 2nd theory is that Subaru had been Isekai'd to that world twice. The first time hundreds of years ago during Satella's time where he was involved with things back than, and the 2nd time is what we're watching. His timeline was split in 2 creating 2 versions of him as he was Isekai'd, and both were sent to different periods of time within the same world. It might explain why he is covered in the witch's scent, why he has return by death, and a few other things. But it's still has some flaws and probably isn't the case. This is one of the things I love about this show. It provides just enough info each time Subaru dies so that you can theorize about what happened, what's going to happen, and what happened before his journey even began while still making some crazy reveals as you go.
