Oh that's right, that word Otaku came up this week and I remembered that somebody defined it but couldn't remember who or what the definition was. This is that answer

2024-08-07 23:44:41 +0000 UTCI looked up what otaku means- it’s essentially someone singularly obsessed with a hobby- typically used as an insult I believe, because the person might be so absorbed that they are ignorant of other things (not just subjects, but social cues/norms/etc)- in this case, Masachika and his sister both seem to be obsessed with manga/light novels. And the difference between those is that light novels usually have more text/more involved dialogue/etc, but still involve illustrations I think. Kaguya was a light novel, while most of the other anime you’ve seen were based on manga
