Added 2024-04-17 21:07:29 +0000 UTCPokemon Special manga book club continues on April 27th at 4pm EST/1pm PST. We're reading up through the end of the Gold, Silver, and Crystal arcs, covering up to Volume 14.
In my memory, Gold/Silver/Crystal ends up being the highlight of the series. Will I still think that?! Well, I remembered thinking Yellow was really cool and it was kind of a slog this time, so who knows.
What ridiculous ways will characters throw Pokeballs? Will Blue still be the objective best character?! Find out next time on POKEMON.

Plus Red spends the entire story climbing up the hot springs it would feel kind of cheap if crystal could do it in half the time

2024-04-30 01:42:14 +0000 UTCI'm a little mad that the reason Crys lost her catching ability was a mental block and not a physical injury when she FELL FROM THE TOP OF A TOWER. Would have been a GREAT way to get her and Red introduced to each-other earlier on in the story by having her go to the hot springs to heal.

2024-04-28 05:21:21 +0000 UTCIn retrospect, kinda wish Gold & Crystal got to bond over having negligent single moms & being raised by their pokemon considering Crys sure did survive in the wild with 2 broken arms at age 6 solely bc some wild pokemon took her in & Gold considers his pokemon his family more than his mom who doesnt care if he checks in. Like it wouldn't have to be sad just some recognition that they're attatched to their pokemon the same way. It's a nice comparison to Silver & Blue's dynamic

That said, it was kind of disappointing to see MATOโs art steadily get better and improve to the point where the final fight of volume 9 is really good and then have a new artist come in whose fights are confusing in a different direction! Not that I dislike his art, but I do dislike how every volume cover starting in ruby/sapphire looks so uhhโฆ Iโll be prepared.
