This will never win one of your TV polls, but the actress who plays Velma is best in the wonderfully written, wonderfully acted, hilarious and dramatic Dead to Me on Netflix. So good, so worth the time. Very recent too with tons of other actors you might recognize (Christina Applegate, James Marsden).

I love Linda Cardellini from Freaks and Geeks, and Swardson too, but man, Iβm sorry, Sandlerβs buddys just arenβt doing it for me. And the main guy is really off putting. I wish I could hang, I feel left out but yuck.

If you ever need a short series, could not more highly recommend the one season Judd Apatow masterpiece Freaks and Geeks, which was Cardellini's big breakout role (not to mention it launched the careers of Seth Rogen, Jason Segel, James Franco, Martin Starr, and John Francis Daley among others - although John Francis Daley has basically moved on from acting to focus on writing and directing. He's one of the writers of Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, which he also directed; Spider-Man: Homecoming; Horrible Bosses; and he directed and is an uncredited writer for Game Night, among others).

2025-09-25 14:37:12 +0000 UTCGeorge, since you mentioned not knowing who the actor who plays JP is, you've actually seen him on the channel before: he was one of the Average Joe's guys in Dodgeball. This movie is pretty much literally an Adam Sandler movie that just doesn't have Adam Sandler in it, since it was made by his production company and basically all of the guys in it are his buddies that he puts in all of his movies. The lead in this, Allen Covert, is someone you've seen a few times, including recently. If you didn't happen to recognize him, he was the limo driver best friend in Wedding Singer, and Happy Gilmore's caddy (in both movies). Also: Jeff is played by Nick Swardson, who you might remember as the creepy stalker fan of Jon Heder's character in Blades of Glory.

This movie, Dodgeball, Anchorman, Dumb and Dumber, Ted 1/2, etc. are all just as good, if not better the more you watch them. You catch jokes that you might have missed on the first run and you just tend to appreciate the humor more. That's why comedy sequels bug me. They are rarely as good as the first (Ted 2 and 22 Jump Street being a couple of the VERY few exceptions to that rule) and are usually quite bad. Like, why did they ever think making another Dumb and Dumber, Happy Gilmore, or Anchorman was a good idea?
