Stranger Things 103-104

Moose head soup at the latest memorial potlatch. And, Milly Bobbie doing an American accent is crazy.

Jeremy Charlie

My husband had to get used to me walking into the room and shouting out random words mid-thought.

Andrea Tubby

I need to know how the lasagna innovation went now :P

geoffeep

George, "Stranger things have happened" is a common English idiom meaning that even if something seems unusual or surprising, it is possible for it to occur, as even more unexpected events have taken place in the past. The title of the show is a play on this idiom, like, these are the stranger things.

nate coleman

George’s mild frustration at not knowing THE ENTIRETY OF EVERYTHING THAT’S GOING ON AT THAT EXACT MOMENT will never not be entertaining.

movieator

love simone dancing around saying "the black kid" lol

Dan Holmes

Last lovely meal, was a chicken chorizo pie with a savoury crumble parmesan topping.

Corrido

What I really loved is the fact that when hopper turns on the former detective inside, he does not stop and is actually a really really good cop...

TomGas2025

Just a note on the actor that plays Dustin, Gaten Matarazzo.. he actually has cleidocranial dysplasia (CCD).  (He even said he had this in the first bully scene of this season) The show runners decided to have that be a part of his character as well...so he really dealt w all the same things...toothless, etc. If you are unfamiliar...it is a skeletal disorder that effects development bones in the skull, collar bones, and teeth

Bella Blue

George not useful now but just have some flour, fat and stock cubes. Those mix into a basic white sauce. That or be like me and absolutely hoard tomato paste. As for my last holy fuck this is good meal was last weekend, I roasted a savoy cabbage along potatoes, served with venison and a mustard sauce that was just divine.

Jobbe Smit

The saying "stranger things have happened" is usually if someone questiones the possibility of something crazy happening. Usually a supernatural type of occurrence. Tbe saying has been around for ages.

Donna Castellano

You said it George. It’s only been four episodes and so much has happened… I refuse to give any spoilers so I’ll just say that I’m glad you’re enjoying the show. Already looking forward to season 2 so that it’ll be new to Simone too.

BoredLittleLady

I can't remember the last time I had a great meal. 20 years?

Carol_White

Aack. It always freaks me out just a little when I open a new video and I just happen to be wearing the same shirt Simone is. lol I've got two Strongjaw Ale and two Invulnerable Vagrant tees in rotation, so it happens just enough to stay weird. :)

Michael Kemmet

Get a bottle of red wine -- nothing expensive or fancy, just a cheap but decent table wine like Merlot. Peel 5 to 8 cloves of garlic and put them in the bottle and re-cork it. After a week or so, it's excellent for deglazing a pan (especially when searing beef for a stew), as marinade, or an ingredient in a red sauce. Also, sometimes I go to the Mexican restaurant in my block and just get a tub of pico de gallo. Then I use it as topping on a steak or with chicken. Or just get a bag of Nacho Cheese Doritos and live the good life.

So, I wanted to quickly clear one thing up in episode 4, in the part when the boys were talking about getting El into the school. Lucas said they wouldn't be able to get "the weirdo" in because "look at her." His reaction is partly an 80s thing. In the 80s, at least in the States and in Canada, it was considered highly unusual for a girl to have hair like that. Granted, you're right, George, it could be hard for others to tell she's a girl. But they're hiding a dangerous secret and trying to protect El, and sometimes when you're worried about a secret getting out, you think that others will somehow figure things out, even when there's no way they can. Also, Lucas's worry over how others will react isn't just about her hair. It's about the way she holds herself, the way she talks, ect. It's the whole vibe she gives off that something isn't quite right. When they gave her the makeover, it was in an attempt to make her look more "normal." Haha, and now I just had a How To Train Your Dragon moment. I picture Lucas going, "Look at her," and gesturing to El, and El going, "You just gestured to all of me." I love this show so much. So happy you're reacting to it.

Cook the lasagna, save some of the pasta water and put it in a sauce pan, add butter, lots and lots of pepper, add back the pasta, then turn off the heat and mix in the cheese. Maybe add more pepper or additional spices. You might even throw in an egg... oh yeah this is recorded ahead of time so not going to help you with the spoiling lasagna noodles. A saying from one of my teachers rang into my head that I think will help you George with this show, "It will be revealed to you at the proper time."

David Lonewolf Wright

lol George says theres too many characters now, but wait till a season 3.. there will be even more and he will love them all dearly

Godrick

That song at the end of episode three gets me EVERY TIME. it's also at the end of season 3 and that hit twice as hard. I cannot wait for them to get through this show!

Zack Gallardo

Okay so this is one of those shows where, because I've watched it, I think this might be the fourth time, I don't want to say anything that could accidentally be a spoiler. So I just prefer to talk about the NOSTALGIA 😂 The infamous "Trapper Keeper" binder that almost all of us had at one point, to keep our lined paper, maybe you had that zip sealed pouch in it that kept all your pens, pencils, erasers, markers, etc. And you would decorate it too. Then they came out with the binder with a clear cover but it was open at the top so you could insert photos or whatever, CD covers, clipped pictures from magazines of your favorite actors or musicians or athletes or whatever, could be a funny picture of your dog or a still from Monty Python, that was fun. (Of course in 90s high schools where I lived the binder and backpack were ironically replaced by the retro "Pee Chee" folder, look it up, they're from the 60s I think, but they got real popular because we would modify all the stock images in really fucked up funny ways, some would do their own graffiti, it was fun). And the MUSIC, Peter Gabriel was a force in the 80s, he left Genesis to Phil Collins and Mike and the Mechanics and climbed Salisbury Hill, them he Shocked a Monkey and hit us with a Sledgehammer, and we wondered if We Could Be Heroes In Your Eyes, and, well I'm rambling now, sometimes I'll just Say Anything for attention.

MacGuffinStuff

If you have parsley, olive oil, parm cheese and a bit of lemon juice you can make Scarlett’s pasta from the movie “Chef”. Simple recipe with few ingredients makes a great dish. Slice the cooked lasagna noodles in long strips.

Ali Williams

Most recent awesome meal? Sounds pretty basic but it was Carne Asada tacos with beans and rice and a Mexican soda, Jarritos brand, mango flavored. But it SO hit the spot (that's an expression I don't think I ever analyzed before, huh), especially after the last few months, been a weird time for me financially yada yada (got yada yada'd by a family member and will be paying for trusting that person for a while to come), but I've been living on soup and sandwiches for months. So I took it upon myself to treat myself to an actual meal, a little restaurant right by my job, Taco Hut. But the staff remembered me because I used to go there all the time, great food, and actually started as a taco truck in LA and got backing to open the brick and mortar because they did events and were also known for their servers being very attractive Latina women (also very nice ladies if you talk to them, they're really cool), and some men with muscles and tight shirts, so it's not just for the dudes lol. But they remembered me and gave me huge portions, enough it fed me for two days. I'm just a beaner and I love the simple things in life, good rice and beans with fresh made tortillas is all I need, add some good carne and I'm in heaven.

MacGuffinStuff

George, I'm leaving this comment after only watching the first few minutes, so bare with me if you already worked this out. I'm not sure if you heard when Simone answered a question you had. You were asking where Barb was at the start. Simone said, "It was the pool, but it wasn't." That's the best and most accurate answer anyone can give you at that point.

Raven Dark

hi Phalanx, the link was fixed 12 hours ago after it was uploaded. it may require a cache clear, or just a refresh of teh link.

George Simone

FWIW, it seems like the 'no sync' version is... out of sync. Video starts several seconds after you say play, and your comments are several seconds ahead of what's happening on screen.

Phalanx

You can convert ketchup to a marinara-like sauce by adding olive oil, minced garlic, onion, and Italian seasonings to thin and enhance its flavor. Do your roll ups but I would add garlic, oregano, onion powder to them. Then use a beaten egg to glue the roll closed and coat the roll in egg, then coat them in crumbs. Pan fry in 1/4 inch oil till browned. Make the ketchup marinera to dip them in. I realize this is too late but for future reference.

I paused in the pre-show for long enough that I had lost all context and when I resumed y'all just went "Gasp" "TV show?" "No, it was cheese!" Of course rewinding did not help. It was great in so many ways, indeed. Ah, good old MK Ultra. It was totally a woo-woo hippie thing even though CIA did it. We talk about how everyone was on drugs in 1960s, well, probably not all the time, but there certainly was some very drugs-"oriented" thinking. People wanted to believe LSD was magic and working in CIA sure didn't make them immune to that, so they did this poorly thought out experiment and it was a complete failure. Although by 1982 of course the details were not widely known and rumors turned into this myth about government conspiracy and mind control and psychic powers and whatnot. Now, I note you haven't discarded the theory that Eleven transforms into the faceless creature? :3

Amelie W

George puts more effort and time into talking about making food than I do actually making food. I wish I had his passion for such things.

REDR58

The first Netflix show I streamed was “Lilyhammer” which was their first “original” streaming show back in 2012. It’s worth a watch.

REDR58

I'm so enjoying revisiting this with you two! One note on Nancy's popularity - I think the idea is that she's "academic" popular while Steve is "jock" popular, so their crowds didn't mix, but it's not seen as a shocking romance to their classmates. (Barb likely is uncool, but she and Nancy seem to be friends from childhood.)

Jenny_M

And a brand new Lego one cost a hellava lot more lol

BangDroid

This show is so bingeable! I haven't seen it for years and it was actually the first series I ever streamed on Netflix. It's good to have something nice to look forward to each week, but man, I wish I could just binge all the reactions now!

BangDroid

I always thought that the title Stranger Things was perhaps derived from the quote from Hamlet Act 1 Scene 5, where Hamlet says to Horatio in reference to having encountered the ghost of his father: "There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy." However, it seems the Duffer Brothers just took the title from the saying "Stranger things have happened", which is also the title of a song by the Foo Fighters.

GAB

Episode 3 George, seeing Barb, “Oh, she’s alive. That’s good.” Is it? The Christmas lights on the ceiling in Joyce’s house look like the restaurant jn NYC called “Panna II” that appeared in the “Daredevil” series: https://www.reddit.com/r/marvelstudios/s/t1GzFfvkDv Nancy is not the “unpopular” girl at the school. I suspect she has the reputation of the “stuck up” girl but here she felt like everyone was looking at her because she thought they found out she slept with Steve. Episode 4 George, everything is a misdirect unless it isn’t. Charlie Heaton’s generic American accent is very good.

REDR58

George the show is called Stranger Things because it’s a reference to the saying “stranger things have happened”.

Crawnch!

It is mildly amusing seeing a girl experience what a guy who has just had sex is actually like. zzzzzz....

James Melton

When they made old serials like Dick Tracy one episode would end with him in a car going off a cliff (is this the actual origin of the term "cliffhanger"?). Then the next week they would simply insert an extra scene where he jumps out of the car. So every week he has some disaster at the end but actually it never happens. That's what this reminded me of seeing the girl eaten by a monster but not actually eaten in the next episode.

James Melton

stranger tuesdays

Ari Ramirez

Yep, plus it's perfect for leftovers so you're basically giving someone multiple dinners in one go.

Jeff K

I forgot today was Tuesday, so was pleasantly surprised to see this when I woke up!

Nanners

last great dish: Flemish stew with Belgian fries and obviously Belgian mayonnaise (yes, that's a thing, protected by law even). With pasta you can do anything. My wife who is a professional chef prefers it with some olive oil, garlic and pecorino cheese and nothing else (Cacio e Pepe). I like with some ham, mushrooms and cream. Salmon and cream is also a great option.

Ruben VL

Hey George, a casserole is just the type of dish the meal is cooked in. It can be a pasta bake, or meat and veggie. Like baked ziti is a casserole dish but you wouldn’t think of it that way. The reason it’s been a staple as a meal you’d give to a family in need is that it’s simple and only requires one dish and that dish can be used to cook and serve.

Jim Hopper: Punching His Way to Justice

Jeff K

Was going to have a stranger things rewatch before s5 begins. Forgot how amazing s1 was. The pacing was perfect, seeing the mystery unspool whilst also seeing investigations, leads and experiments leading somewhere is really well done. The acting is all round excellent too. 11 and Joyce: somebody give them a hug, and Hopper is Natural Police. However, the best expressions are when George asks a question, or a theory goes a little off piste and you can see Simone, in meditative reflection, working out how much she remember or is at liberty to say, to not spoil anything. Will miss that in s2.

Damian

I love the pacing of this season and how many things they deliver in just a few episodes. The body reveal is something that a lot of other shows would have held off for episodes and they sorted in one.

Liuzetz

The pacing of the show is intentional. Sometimes you've got to let the story unfold without questioning every new detail!

lisa

22:09 To what extent, not to what extension.

Deadly Ramon

Yesterday was my last great meal day. In the summer, I get to eat a lot of great food. My dad is useless in the kitchen, but if you put him in front of a grill, he becomes a wizard. We had seasoned and seared porterhouse steaks on the grill, with sauteed mushrooms, homemade French fries and a fruit salad for dessert. And today I get to eat fruit salad for three straight meals to finish off the fruit! In fact, I'm going to get a bowl right now before I watch the rest of this reaction!

BubblyRainbows

When Mike's mom offers to let him pick out an R movie rental remember that PG movies of the time included things like Jaws and Poltergeist. ;)

JayF

i feel like this is a spoiler... i dont remember exactly but isnt there more to be revealed about this in later episodes/seasons?

lalaland

This past saturday, I was at my two friends' wedding. Because the groom injured his foot and the bride got sick a couple of weeks before the wedding (because one accident... and all that), they decided to postpone the wedding party until next year. Anyway, instead we went out to eat at a streetfood place, where I got a kebab roll and fries... a bit expensive, but sooo good! They also had some REALLY good cheese cake and chocolate cake, but sadly I was too full after the kebab... oh well, next time...

Denashi

For the food question. I wanted to make chilli con carne but i didn't have any beans. The only thing i had was spinach. So i used that instead. Best Spaghetti of my life.

T0b1maru

This applies to a lot of movies they watch

Inkpendude

George, in episode 3 you asked “why is she like this?” after Eleven killed those two orderlies; I think you might have missed the answer earlier when Hopper was looking at the microfiche and there was a headline about MKUltra (the very real government experiment in which the feds tried to create telekinesis and telepathy in subjects). EDIT: and forgot they went into it more later in the episode and got there. I need to learn not to comment before getting through the full episode hahaha…

Jeff K

I think this was mentioned last week but I’ll mention again, for the next seasons DO NOT look at the season posters before watching because they have reveals on them

TheLeftPecOfTheLord

I made a great Steak with mashed potatoes and a mustard sauce. The mashed potatoes took forever to make but it was so nice.

Jasper Collins

Just learned last week that the house they used for exterior shots of the Byers house has been turned into the Byers House AirBNB, with the owners converting the interior to match the sets from the show. Next time in in Atlanta and feel like blowing $450 for one night, I might need to check that out.

Jeff K

Cook lasagna sheets, write random Simone intros on them, throw against wall, see what sticks.

8bitAndy

new version just finished uploading. refresh the video and it should be good.

George Simone

Hi guys, I think there is something wrong with the sync of the footage and your reaction. I first noticed it at 23:00min

Alexander Gumprich

Hey! There are websites that allow you to type in what ingredients you have at home and it'll show you all the recipes that you can make with them!

Skyler

Thank you!

Stephanie Bedworth

Yeah there's a sync issue. I first noticed it at around 24 mins in. You are talking about a torture scene with coke in it but the show is at the point where Eleven goes upstairs when nobody is home and starts watching TV in the recliner. Edit - This is in the no sync required version

JayF

fixing no-sync version now.

George Simone

Heh, you two were completely unphased when he dropped the Millennium Falcon to the ground twice. Everyone around my age (Gen X) lost their shit when he did that. Those can be worth over $600 now.

JayF

Lol more than a bit

Popsmcgraw

I think the no sync required version in a bit out of sync
