Severance 207-208

I would love that, but it is big ask because despite its popularity and critical reception, even reactions to multiple episodes at a time will not get much views. Or worse, only certain episodes will get lots a views, and the rest will only get tiny views.

Really want to see reactions to Batman The Animated Series once BCS is over. I think they could CRANK through that shit so fast. Like 3 eps a week no problemo Only 85 episodes at 20 minutes a clip and then only 24 episodes of The New Batman Adventures after the big blue boyscout got his show too… The reaction to OVER THE EDGE and Two Face alone would make it all wroth it cuz those are such bangers… oh imagine how much fun they’d have with “Almost Got ‘Im” CLASSIC episode. So good.

Virtual Production Insider did a really cool, fully in-camera recreation of Mark leaving the elevator and spinning all around in confusion. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1bNs-j38Vc

That movie is a bad Americanized version of the 2004 Aussie film Strange Bedfellows. The similarity even resulted in litigation.

Thank you for your efforts.. I am appreaciating your "uncovered versions" very much and look forward to the finale of Season 2 .. I know that.. the work is mysterios and iimportant.

I don’t trust Raghbi fully but in fairness to her, no one listens to her but then they blame her for the side effects they caused. Petey refused to keep working with her to mitigate the side effects of reintegration. Remember she was calling him non stop to check in. In the previous episodes she told mark that she wanted to go slower and he insisted because he wanted to see Gemma again. And then after she makes a huge incision in his head, she’s adamant that Mark can’t move his head. He argues back and forth and chooses to still go upstairs to have a chat with Devon. Marks seizure is 100% his fault. You don’t ignore the person who just cut into your brain.

Yes, the setting and time of the show are very interesting. They have smart phones and internet but cars that don’t go past the early 2000s.

At around 2 minutes 5 seconds of the 7th episode, you see the Lumon logo on the blood barrels. They really are everywhere.

I think this (208) and the next episode could have been one but you want the big reveal here at the end. There are ten episodes in this season and this one seems more like the bonus bit. I don’t think the Persephone line was implying Devon was Persephone but it was putting the idea of the underworld into our heads. Mark is Orpheus searching for Eurydice (Gemma) but he’s also Faustus making a deal with devil in exchange for having Helen (Helly) brought back to life. The actor playing the dentist is most famous as the voice of Disney’s Beast but beast is an analog of Bluebeard who had a forbidden room in his castle. There are many layers. Chikhai Bardo is a reference to one of the stages of death in Tibetan Buddhism. The death process has layers too. I’m not in the camp that thinks Gemma volunteered. This show is no more set in a contemporary place or time than the Witcher or Game of Thrones are set in medieval Europe.

Calling Harmony makes a lot of sense under the circumstances. Devon finds Mark on the floor presumably dying, and Reghabi, the person responsible, seemingly unable to save him. When you consider that Reghabi has already killed Petey with her reintegration efforts, you wouldn't be out of line for wanting to contact someone else for help, especially how cagey Reghabi is and what little concern she has for Mark's life in the grand scheme of things. Everything Harmony has done so far indicates she places a value on Mark's life; Reghabi, not so much. Regarding where they are, I can't get a fix on it, mainly because they the cars don't seem to have license plates or other identifying elements. Other commenters have said that the show has mentioned that the town they live in is Kier PE. (Thanks, REDR58 and others.) The PE led me to believe it was Prince Edward Island, Canada, Other comments led me to believe it's not, the proximity to Milwaukee, for instance. And then there's the playing of the song "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" in at least two episodes, leads me to believe Kier PE is in Wisconsin, U.S. So, now that Harmony is on the way to save Mark, how do you think she does it? Does she do it by reëstablishing the boundary between innie and outie, or does she do it by fully integrating his two identities? If the writers are riffing off of the classic myths, I'm not too concerned about Devon being Persephone. Persephone is held against her will by Hades. If Devon is Persephone, she's still a good person. I'm more concerned about Ricken being Hades. Now that Lumen wants him to write more inspiring essays for their workers, I can see him becoming a willing ruler of the Underworld, which makes me concerned for Devon. But more worrisome is Gemma's fate. If she is Eurydice, Mark is going to be the death of her. I can totally see that happening.

The show takes place in "Kier, PE" per a piece of mail in Irving's apartment. There is no state with the initials PE.

Watch “I now pronounce you chuck and Larry” for pride month

Sweet Vitriol was filmed in Newfoundland if you were curious.

I feel like y'all are too pessimistic about severance. Just think, you could have your innies re-watch the missing movies in your catalog again. Re-watch LOTR for the first time. Simone could have a new George innie watch "You've Got Mail" with her 3 times a week for the rest of eternity!

That VFX clip is amazing. The subtle use of CGI always amazes me. E.g. I never even thought some of the snow was CG. It also makes me realise I have absolutely no idea how these things are made. The difference between what is shot in camera and the final scene you see on screen is like magic to me.

Would you guys consider watching Andor after you're done with this season of Severance? It's 2 seasons, 24 episodes long in total, just finished up and pretty perfect length for one of these in between shows you do while watching a longer show. It's also easily the best Star Wars project since the original trilogy.

George, “Fifth Season” is the renamed production company for Severance and other shows, formerly known as “Endeavor Content” as seen in the first season.

I wasn’t sure how I felt about season 2. It is almost an anthology series. I forgot just how many truly excellent episodes are in this season. I have said before they are showing off with some of the shots and transitions, a lot of money spent on the show, but I guess Apple are good for it. Devon is excellent, we all agree, and her natural acting is conspicuous by how normal her character is in the show.

Damian

George Simone

Do you guys have a Letterboxd?

There is a VFX breakdown that might be worth your while after finishing the season. Would also be cool to see your reaction to how some of the shots were done https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKT-MUDkDt0

There are no mines. It was an ether factory (that was Lumon's first industry)... and, you guessed it George, that's what everyone in the town is addicted to. I can't disagree more, George, about there seeming to be something left out of episode 208. There was huge progression in both of these episodes We've been given most of the answers to what happened to Gemma (granted, with all new questions that now need to be answered), and Cobel's motivations were revealed as well as the reason's for her conflicted feelings about Lumon and the Eagans—indoctrinated into the cult as a child, but also having her idea and work being stolen by the Eagan family, and then being discarded. There were more revalation in these two episodes than in the entire series so far. As for Gemma, it seems pretty clear to me that she went of her own free will to Lumon for help, but they tricked her, basically kidnapped her (they have no intention of ever letting her go), and faked her death. Gemma might have trusted Lumon at first, but it's now been over two years. I think we can safely assume from her reactions in the episode, she is no longer there willingly. From things that she was told, I think we can also assume she knows people think she is dead—but I don't believe that was what she intended when going to Lumon. Oh, btw, the "dentist" on the testing floor is played by Robbie Benson—the voice of Beast from Disney's animated film, Beauty & the Beast. He went from being a teen heartthrob in the 1980s, to being one of the creepiest characters on any show. Reghabi is the one who was in charge of placing the severance implants into Lumon employees, but she clearly didn't like what Lumon was doing. It seemed to me from the beginning that she was working on reverse engineering the implant in order to undo it and create reintegration. Petey was the first subject (that we are aware of—it's possible Irving might have been an early subject too, as suggested by his repeatedly painting the export hall and those mysterious phone calls he's been making). Clearly Reghabi doesn't have all the answers, but as one of the only scientists who works closely with the technology, she's in the best position to solve the problem of reintegration (except for Cobel, it turns out).

D. T. Nelson

Appropriately, the closing song as Cobel drives away is "Fire Woman" by "The Cult"

George, because you mentioned Orpheus and Eurydice, did you listen to the Hades Town musical or went to a show? If not highly recommended!
