Marten's proud parent smile is awesome

Bagge

Nah, she's the alicorn principal

Brent Ward

Well, unicorn principle makes sense. because unicorn principal would be Celestia....

David Howe

Bong water

Erin Halfelven at BigCloset

Also like he’s best buds with Bembo.

Craig Griffith

Moray is charmed and strange, too.

Mad Marie

Everyone knows that unicorns should be seen but not herd.

Stephen Wells

If Claire's mouth tastes like a Phish concert, I wonder what Moray tastes like right now.

Afunnythinghappedtome

Otherwise known as the Higgs Buttson.

Hugh Eckert

Tbh, this makes more sense than the napkin from Glass Onion.

Michael Chui

Charmed and Strange quarks, and also Assam.

Daryl Sawyer

UNICORN SWARM!

Zak Reichle

Do...do you...do you mean...that it's unicorns all the way down?

Ursus Ridens

*Are there?

Ursus Ridens

Space cheese -- of course! There aren't any space voles*, so what did you think all those space owls were living on?

Ursus Ridens

That actually explains quite a lot.

Ursus Ridens

Liz's thought in the last panel must be running something like: "Was Past Liz an idiot and a flake, or was Past Liz a genius and an asshole to Future Liz?"

Clifton Royston

Unicorn Principle is just the name of her next band.

John Ridley

For those like me who have trouble remembering their particle physics, Wikipedia informs: "Baryonic matter - Nearly all matter that may be encountered or experienced in everyday life is baryonic matter, which includes atoms of any sort, and provides them with the property of mass."

Clifton Royston

The Coolnicorn is made up of Charmed and Strange quarks. Also, I love Liz's expressions in this strip!

Hugh Eckert

Keith Richards recorded the riff for "Satisfaction" while asleep. Being Keef, he was also certainly on drugs.

Hugh Eckert

Other things I am able to make out on that page, with close examination, beyond the "(do math about this)" and "UNICORN PRINCIPLE" In the upper middle: "Universe = simulation? dark matter forms large scale structure substrate for computational components -> baryonic matter" (2nd of these is a hot topic in cosmology I think, 1st & 3rd are staples of crackpot theories and SF. I think Charlie Stross incorporated all of these into the later stages of 'Accelerando' which is still a great book.) Next to the pie chart of DM, NEU, PHO, Atoms (?) are scribbled the words "Space cheese...." I thought at first it said "Space decays..." but now I'm pretty sure it's "Space cheese" referring to the pie chart. Off on the right is "Magnetic monopoles: LiL cuties?" which is almost as great as "UNICORN PRINCIPLE"

Clifton Royston

Yes, it does. I was just about to write that too.

Clifton Royston

The Coolnicorn looks an awful lot like the Assam Tea Sexy Unicorn Man. I think there's some quantum entanglement here...

Douglas E. Smith

Oh no I just noticed - it's unicorns by the end of page 1 and all the pages below are ALL UNICORNS this is perfect :)

Stephen Wells

Particle physics already includes the "penguin diagram" because an author lost a bet. I can absolutely see the Unicorn Principle turning out to be a valid piece of quantum cosmology. It's like the weak anthropic principle but with more sequins.

Stephen Wells

This is what would happen whenever I got high and wrote music. I could only make sense of it enough to record it while stoned the next time. Lol

kupo

A Google search for "unicorn cosmology" turns up a paper that's only a few days old. So, either Jeph saw that and thought it would be a funny thing to reference, or Liz is right about the universe being a simulation. https://arxiv.org/abs/2306.00722

Geo (Overand)

I can talk quite lucidly whilst stoned out of my gourd, it's come in quite handy when talking with the 'thorities.

allanfranta

Myth vs reality of getting REALLY high and creating things.

Matt

From their expressions in panel 4, Marten is like "I haven't seen such complex maths since I tried to figure out how happy Hannelore is..." (https://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=2129), Moray is excited because she is pretty sure Liz made some kind of progress, while Liz herself is like "What was in that tea again?" (https://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=3427)

David Paul

Happy to see indie references come back!

Γ€ymm

Unicorns are made of dark matter. That's why we never see them!

Dean Reilly

Maybe that's why I don't do recreational pharmaceuticals. The inside of my head looks like panel 3 anyway :)

Stephen Wells

I hope she and Evan had a very cuddly night together :) and that Evan will also be more chill when we see her next :)

Stephen Wells

Liz seems a lot more chill and a lot less goblin-y xD

enchantedsleeper

I think "EH" is all the dialog it needs...

Leak

...or both? And by quenching his own thirst, extrapolating outwards grandly?

Gorbulus Maximus

^ Ooh, very nice.

Zak Reichle

Liz: "Marty! Fire up the De-Moray-an! We have to go... baked to the future!"

Leak

As a scientist with D&D interests, I have absolutely produced pages like that while sober, and now I'm worried about what that says about my brain.

Stephen Wells

I think the signs are clear. Liz needs to ditch physics and take up genetics so she can create real unicorns. That will be Cubetown's greatest contribution to the world.

Orion Rhine

I feel like the last panel is another case of "there was dialog but it was funnier without it"

Jay MacKinnon

Marten has had so many great facial expressions this arc.

Ron Hamann

Liz got so high that she either got a glimpse of Equestria, or of Phoebe's world. And it seems that she and Millie have similar tendencies: https://ozyandmillie.org/2007/10-19/index.html

Wayne Farmer

Do not EVER do this while camping at a very, very large event (say, for instance, a medieval re-enactor's war.) A Port-a-john *may* have become inhabited by an inflatable T-Rex with my assistance due to some questionable choices; it seemed like a good idea at the time, but there were a lot of photos of that damn thing later and it wasn't even mine. β—Ž_β—Ž;

YsabetJustYsabet

Omg why does this hit so hard πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ Jeph you beautiful bastarf

DaddyUmbreon

Long story: The first place I lived after my parents was a house with 4 other stoner bachelors. One guy moved out so I got his room. In the closet one day I found a rolling paper stuck to the doorframe, clearly words of wisdom that he had written down while thoroughly baked and didn't want to forget this epic insight. "A single glass of water lights the world". So either he was tripping and watching the sunlight sparkle on a glass of water or he just had really bad cottonmouth and was wishing for water.

SilverbackRon

Unicorns' power doesn't come from the monopole in their horns, but their cuteness does.
