Wow. 5000 comics. That is a much larger amount of comics than I ever expected to make.

I want to say thank you to everyone who has stuck around, for however long you’ve been reading. I really appreciate being part of your daily/weekly/whatever routines. It’s an incredible privilege to make a living in this field, and I’m grateful for all your support, whatever form it takes. Extra special thanks to my Patreon subscribers, both for their support and for being such a wonderful, welcoming community.

I’ve seen some speculation that the comic is wrapping up- that is not the case. I have no plans to end QC. The comic has changed focus many times over the course of its lifespan. That’s what has kept it interesting for me, over all these years. Sending Marten and Claire to Cubetown looks to be just another one of those shifts. Which is funny, because the genesis of the whole idea was me thinking “you know, I barely do anything with Marten anymore, and he’s in a good place with Claire. It might be time to give them a ride into the sunset since they don’t seem to be the focus of my interest these days.” Then I started gathering all the threads together for this story, and suddenly Marten was fun to write again and I had a million ideas for Cubetown and welp I guess I accidentally an entire new setting, lol. That’s how it goes sometimes.

I hesitate to make predictions about the future, because I often end up being wrong (see above), but so far I’m having fun switching between Cubetown and Northampton as the creative process calls for it. So I’m pretty sure I won’t be dumping Northampton as a setting, or moving the entire cast to Cubetown, or any of the other more far-fetched ideas I’ve seen floating around. I’m just going to keep writing comics like I always have, and follow the path where it leads. I’ve learned to trust myself when it comes to this stuff.

Thanks again for reading, and I hope you’ll stick around to see where things go. I’m having more fun doing QC than ever before.

I signed up just to say this. I've been reading since I was a bored intern at work searching for comics on the internet. Found you around 100 or so. Never looked back. So glad you are so glad doing this every day <3

Jeph I've been reading since before comic 1000, and I'm just so happy you've gotten this far. Sorry I haven't been able to support much till now. Thank you for such an incredible comic, it has been a lifeline for me for over a decade 🙏 May good things and awesomeness come your way 🎸!!

Did Steve keep the boat? Does Steve have a boat at this time that would enable quick jaunts up to Cubetown? Did I just use "enable" in the addiction sense instead of the software sense?

Reading QC for almost a decade has felt like visiting friends every day. I’ve had some dark times and sometimes wanting to know what happens next in your comic was what got me to the next day. Thanks for writing and putting so much love and care into your charchters 💕

Thank you so much for so many years of great reading! I really enjoy your characters and their stories. I'm looking forward to as many more years of comics as you can give us.

Don't remember when I first started reading, but your comic has aged like fine wine. It is one I always come back to, sometimes just press random and start reading from wherever I end up. It just makes me feel good and lifts my spirits. Thank you for these 5000 comics.

So many congratulations on 5,000 comics and so many years of success, hard work, creative and artistic growth, and inclusive, thoughtful entertainment and fun you’ve provided people. I’m not much of a commenter, but I’ve been following QC reliably since 2009, and I certainly wouldn’t have expected this to be one of the things from my life back then still so relevant on a daily basis. From a closeted gay kid happy to see a whole host of diverse characters taken in stride for who they are — to a happily successfully gay man, Questionable Content has been a constant companion. Thank you, Jeph!

Been here since the first porn in front of dog joke.

A likely story… but Marten himself would like to tell another: when he began to have a suspicion from the first strips in the storyline that you were sending him into the sunset, he reached out to his union which hired a competent lawyer who raised the following matters: 1) as a founding cast member, Marten can’t be functionally fired lest you have to pay a princely compensatory sum (as a result of it being expressed as a function of viewership in the original contract…) 2) the contracts you had Marten sign since then are only valid to the extent they don’t contradict his original one (cf John vs. Jones, Supreme Court of Massachusetts) and 3) Claire belongs to a protected class in the state of Massachusetts and the apparent motive for her firing (follow Marten’s fate) didn’t quite reach the necessary standard for that protection to be overridden…

5000. I remember when I started reading all those years ago. I found you through a link on XKCD. QC was only my second ever webcomic. I think you were just around 500 strips back then. *Raises a glass of root beer* Here's to another 5000!

Having the Cubetown/Northampton back and forth is extremely cool; looking forward to the future of QC! :)
