I will always remember one part of CHP motorcycle school. If you see a small animal or object in the road, it can be dangerous to avoid it, prepare to surmount the obstacle. If you encounter a larger animal such as a deer or moose avoid it. Hitting it is like crashing into a semi.
So TLDR avoid moose, tar snakes and wet leaves.

First of all, there’s an awful lot of Monty Python fans here, and I think I have found my people.
Second, moose are huge abominations of nature, foul tempered - especially in the fall, and a lot larger than you think, even if you have seen them in real life, their hugeness still impresses you.
Bison are like that too. Bigger than you think they ought to be.
