And that is how the CubeTown problem was resolved. Marten can't go because he is grounded and Claire won't leave without him.

SilverbackRon

You do that if you don't want the resident teen snooping around in it... think "gun safe", but less safety critical.

Leak

Why the assumption that the suitcase is locked? Who does that in their own home?

Same has been happening for me

Lisa Dean

“This is the lockpicking lawyer….”

Alan Thomas

Does anyone know why the comics suddenly became blurry on the app? Doesn’t happen with my other subscription.

Alan Thomas

I suspect the answer to that question might be "it doesn't matter - I told her I'd get it myself, -and- not to open it."

Diptych

Well, if Aurelia can just slip into her online persona, she shouldn't have any problem at all with Veronica.

Ursus Ridens

Sam is WAY impulsive. (Cf. her around powered machinery.) But so are most kids and teens.

Ursus Ridens

I think the correct way to ask for leniency in this case is to immediately point out the reason for leniency in question form, rather than saying "but mom" or "c'mon, cut her some slack" first. "Does Sam know how to distinguish between carry-on luggage and non-carry-on luggage?" Of course, that's probably not the best question to ask, but communication's never really been my best skill.

I dunno. "Impulse does work as slowly as that sometimes. Particularly when you’re having a really bad idea." (Miles Vorkosigan in Memory, by Bujold)

Alex Borders

Last panel: Is Marten out of practice with the pleading eyes? Sam's look much more on the mark.

ValdVin

She can be my Mommy anytime.

Yelling Bird

I'm not sure being grounded is a good thing when you're getting zapped that hard...

Leak

Opening a suitcase is one thing. Picking a lock requires a whole different level of premeditation which can't be put down to impulse

Todd Ellner

"Disciplining children is too much like work. No screens for either of you for a week."

Todd Ellner

This is exactly the kind of interactions between Martin's new family that I hoped Jeph would have time to show. I'm still looking forward to Veronica meeting Aurelia though.

David Durant

Hey, of the QC universe can have sentient AI the surely, surely it can also have teen-proof locks... or is that too much suspension of disbelief?

Leak

@Leak Where does one obtain this teen-proof lock of which you speak? If presented with one between her and the object of her curiosity, Sam will soon become a subscriber to LockPickingLawyer's YouTube channel - if she isn't already. In my head-canon I see Sam as a true Hacker. There's not an iota of malice in the girl's soul, but she has an overpowering desire to understand how the world around her works and she'll keep hacking away at a problem until she gets it figured out. Or until apprehended.

OldGoat

Not having flown in two decades I might be out of the loop, but I don't think the TSA will bash down your door and break the lock if you keep your luggage with NSFW content tightly locked with an adequate teen-proof lock in your own home... (At least I hope that's still the case...)

Leak

If you lock your luggage the TSA will cut it off, which probably leads to progressively cheaper locks over time.

Bill Silvia

That's all on you, Veronica - if you only put a M*sterLock-grade proxy for a lock on your luggage it's no wonder a teen can open it simply by sneezing at it...

Leak

Bahahaha Marten and Sam in that last panel.

Gillian Brown

grounding Sam seems slightly harsh imo... though i guess the first panel suggests that the whole "not listening" thing has happened more than once.... Sam IS a little bit impulsive xD so maybe this is a pattern that Veronica is trying to get Sam out of (not listening / not respecting boundaries/privacy)
