There goes Claire, continuing to be my favorite character

"Silly old mother," she says. "As if," we respond in unison.

at times like these i'm reminded that martin hasn't been a main character in years and years and years....

I think they are both a little right and both a bit of an ass

Yay can hear this conversation

I totally get why, and have been in this place myself, but the fact that Marten is so chill and familiar with Claire's family, like going to dinner there is no big deal, but is /weird/ about seeing his Mom and her new family, well that's a thing right there. TL;DR Talk to your MOM Marten!

I'll bet she asks Yay anyway, just to make sure her daughter is going to be ok. Whether she tells Claire what she finds out or not. (Probably not, unless Yay finds something disturbing). I don't know body language interpretation so you may be right there. But also they just ate. Doesn't change my opinion that Claire is unintentionally rude and lacking empathy here.

I question how much good faith there really is. That "dabbing-at-the-mouth" gesture signalled bragging, and that last line is super passive-aggressive. Like, why on Earth _would_ Claire think Aurelia is better connected than Station? Plus, maybe she'd want to ask Yay if they want to be involved in this, so that people don't start asking awkward questions?

Nicolas Demers

Aurelia made a good faith offer of help. Claire egotistically dismissed her offer without investigating, hurting Aurelia's feelings. Aurelia responded with 'hurt mom voice'. And rather than being sensitive to the slight she just inflicted, Claire doubled down on the rejection. I agree that setting boundaries is generally good, but there was nothing kind or healthy in the way that Claire did so. Because her automatic assumption was that Aurelia had nothing of value to offer. I have to wonder if this is a normal family dynamic for them. I will say I find Claire the least empathic of all the QC characters though.

Andrea

Aurelia, please also remember that Hannelore was literally standing *right there* after Claire got the call, and also nobody knows you're friends with Yay. Give yourself a break. ❤️

Counter-proposal: Claire's assessment of Aurelia's behaviour is indeed accurate, and calling out her mom is indeed a healthy and good thing to do.

did somebody say Station+Yay OST

Maybe it's just the stress, but I'm inclined to agree.

Is it just me or is Claire being kind of an uptight ass about this? And just insufferably rude to her mother. You'd think she'd want to gather all the info she possibly could.
