I'm pretty sure the arachniform AI was just there because they had issues from nobody liking them. They clearly liked their body enough that they were sticking with it, at least for the time being. They just wanted friends, is all, and they weren't getting them.

Just realized a sad thing. Other than Crushbot we haven't met any AIs who are happy with non-human-style bodies. Every anthro PC has been desperately body metamorphic and has lunged at the chance to appear more like a human. Okay, the arachniform one at the therapy meeting might have been there for other issues. We just don't know. Sad that such self-hating and lack of imagination is endemic in silicon intelligences

Hmmmm. QC is not a setting that's particularly dark, but two things come to mind. One, this whole series of events is very out of character for a superintelligence, even one as emotionally immature as Yay. I wonder if there's a problem with their networked intelligence?
