A thumbprint is a kind of password. It's just the kind of password that's really hard to guess and also relatively hard to steal without your noticing. But whatever Christopher is using to identify himself to social media sites, Yay can probably spoof without much effort. They definitely have the raw processing power, somehow, which is the usual defense that cryptography uses to prevent people from doing this. Also, I'd guess that AIs like Christopher probably choose to use human-style passwords.

Sure, they "eavesdrop", but that may be a lot like hearing to them, not so easy to shut out. All kinds of bad things go on around them, but they keep their hands off. Perhaps wisely. On the other hand, maybe they are "human" enough to be petty and vengeful.
