Milestone Millstone

this is fine

Milestone Millstone

Comments

as someone irl real time as we speak job hunting in the valley, this pains me

Rhipidura

Used by Caltech scientists and NASA engineers?

Danya Michael

Could also replace "job-searching adult" with "aspiring writer", and this comic would still be dead-on-balls accurate (It's an industry term).

Matt Pedone

This is me applying to doctoral programs

Onyx

I read somewhere that you should arrive for 100 rejections. Apply for everything and by the time you get to 100 you've either lost any feelings about it or you'll be where you need to be.

Ah, Hadley. The mall had a laser tag place and a pretty nice arcade. I used to to play a Star Wars game game there. It was sweet. Good times.

otusasio451

Claire then went into the bedroom, closed the door and that's the last time anyone saw her. They say to this day you can still hear muffled moans coming from the haunted bedroom 😭😭👻👻

Scotty

Ahh, the face of rejection sensitivity.

Ardent Slacker

HEY! Look on the bright side. Your rather specific number of rejection letters approximates the reciprocal of the fine structure constant. :D

Zwischen_Welten

Welcome to the library job market! *sob

Smazzie

That's how I adult.

I was laid off due to pandemic. I have received 137 rejection letters. After applying for 2,231 jobs.

MalkToast

Claire became all of us in that fourth panel.

Will Weaver

I'm SO looking forward to having my university remove my tenure and throw me into the private sector for the first time.... Claire's reaction is more or less the best one can hope for.

Nathaniel Tagg

Awww, c'mon... Marten's always been the straight man in this sitcom...

Photon

Claire’s “screaming internally” face https://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=3773

Mark

Sigh,.... Memories.

Darnel D Cooper

Mood lol I'm currently applying all over the place and get several of those a week.

Atashkada

I'm currently on my 24th rejection letter since graduating... Hang in there Claire

Salodni Ikkis

They got an AI to do the form letters.

Milo

She could go the Bruno Davert way in “The Axe” and make away with the competition...

Milo

The fact that she got a reply is good friggin news. Most places just ghost all applicants they dont pick. And they mentioned her by name! Someone took the time to write the letter by hand! Still, yes, low drone in bed is totally acceptable way to react.

Johan Nyqvist

Pardon me while I try to bask (and take in) some full time librarian energy. I’ve been a librarian for more than a decade, and while I’ve worked close to full time hours, that was only by dint of piecing together part time jobs. Losing two of the three I’ve held since 2013 during the pandemic has been rather restful (I’ve been appreciating not working weekends or evening shifts followed by morning shifts), but tight at half the income (just enough to not qualify for unemployment). My laid off librarian (LOL) group has recently pointed me at a few new local openings, and I’m in preparation (references secured as of today, resume conversion to a cv (argh) and cover letter revamp still to go) to drop myself into the likely feeding frenzy and be hopeful.

Simran Khalsa

The times I've had to apply for jobs, it's taken, on average, about a hundred rejections to get a job ..

Lars Gottlieb

this is the only reason I don't quit my job, idk how I'd ever go through this again =(

Minzoku Bokumetsu

Who's that guy on the couch? I know I've seen him before somewhere...

Andrew Mitchell

Not true. I do.

Andrew Mitchell

"Well, I didn't want it anyway"

Bagge

and not in the fun way

Bagge

I got a rejection letter once for a job I hadn’t applied for. Pranked by Stanford!

Matt Grayson

I feel bad but I totally hate any page with Marten in it now. He is so boring.

Make sure you take breaks! Emitting moans for longer than 2-4 hours is tough on the throat~

Yamtaggler

Big Tina Belcher energy

Pejo

I'VE GOT A JOB FOR YOU! I NEED SOMEONE TO ALPHABETIZE THE CONTENTS OF MY CLOACA!

Yelling Bird

There’s a joke in there about “applying if there are openings in the future,” but I am clearly too mature to make it.

Tom wilson

This is where back rubs and cookies help

Kyle Major

Marten. Tub of ice cream, rom com, and cuddles, STAT. (Cite: wife has MLS degree.)

Doug DeJulio

Having only just recently gotten my first *full time* librarian position, I feel you Claire. Hang in there cause you kick ass

Ethan Fardoux

Yep, I also know this feeling quite a bit. First time applying for jobs in about a decade right now. Also, Claire's "screaming internally" face always cracks me up.

Davkas

So feeling this right now (laid off in October).

Gary Walker

I feel that. Hopefully not with my grad school application though!

Jackie Horn

I never get that kind of rejection from an employer. Only just before a first date.

BobC

i was applying for jobs earlier in the pandemic. i remember those emails. hell zone. im very, very luckily employed now

chapoluvr420

Hey at least she got a rejection letter. Most jobs just ghost you.

David Johnson

Finally, Martin is back! TY

jimbo

And take the massage oil! She's gonna need a good neck and shoulder massage!

I read it from in my email so it was a whole mail-ception thing. It made me notice that the icons at the bottom were iOS mail icons but the phone doesn’t seem to be an iPhone. Weird.

Matthew Van Gangelen

i have worn that final expression far too many times...

Tamara Temple

Marten, get up and provide some sort of comfort before you get slapped with a purple dildo.

Ted Van Roekel

Have you found Rachel Dill yet so we can blame her IRL for something she knows nothing about? :)

Andrew

oh yeah, because im a trans girl doing a library course with depression and anxiety who has applied for many jobs in the past

Tamara Macadam

why are claires comics always the most relatable ones

Tamara Macadam

Been there, done that, moaned into the tshirt.

MikeT

And if this is too risqué, just delete.

A. J. Alfieri-Crispin

BURN IT DOWN!!!!11! (no don't do that)

Alacrity Fitzhugh

I don’t know, what Claire describes in the last panel, sounds like some of my best experiences… 👀

A. J. Alfieri-Crispin

Totally fine. Nothing to worry about.

Brooks Moses

And there is a Hadley public library, in Massachusetts.

Michael Boettger

The comedic timing of reading your twitter thread about the shitty email you got today and immediately after getting the email notification for this specific comic page.

ERRORCODE616

Having been through this, I would GREATLY prefer a rejection letter over the ghosting that 99% of them do.

ljdbjlasfbjk

At least she got a response; a lot of places don’t even bother to give you that.

Chris Crowther

Clare's facial expression in the last panel is oh so relateable

Erin Moriarty

This is so unrealistic. No one sends rejection emails anymore

Aeronaut99

She's totally fine.

R L

Aww

doorbender

I forgot what an absolute joy Claire is. Hang in there, missy.

Michael Boettger

But she heard back, which is better than the typical shout into the void 😂

Robin

Claire (stress) face, has returned!

Lord Crusade

Claire, you really should see a therapist about these episodes...

Grace Kieser

Job hunting sucks sooooo much. At least they let her know instead of just ghosting.

Michael

She's so cute! No be sad!

Fart Captor

Big Mood

Tara Cook

She's fine.

Edward Clayton Andrews
