Clinton (like many introverted intellectuals) is always confident when it comes to a "problem needing solution." See him asking Brun about how she feels about Elliot, to solve the issue at hand. Unfortunately, that does not translate well to emotional situations, dating, respecting boundaries, etc. So while he has trouble figuring out how to handle Elliot's declaration of love, he has no problem noticing the pattern in Elliots talking, and offering a potential course of action. (Okay, this response is too long, and probably shows that I'm a "Clinton" lol)
