Stare-Off

spooky?

Stare-Off

Comments

I learned recently that the reason cat pupils go from wide to narrow is that this is how they can more easily see prey through long grass. So it's a hunting trait.

Ack

"We have found the splurge for the ionizer pores a most useful investment, as we employ it in a variety of circumstances."

JourneymanWizard

Slight error. Yay's shirt and pants should be covered in white fur from Hercules playing/sitting on them😸😸

Scotty

"Spelliot"? Okay!

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Afunnythinghappedtome

This is blasphemy but I now ship spooky and Elliot

This makes me happy because they're friends now. <3

Kuragari

Those honestly sound like the same to me

Azrux

I see this going one of two ways: hilarious, or horribly, horribly wrong.

William Burns

this has the beginning of some AI-human S&M role play. "make me" would probably be Yay's followup. Good luck Elliot!

jimbo

I think it's the opposite. Unless someone told Elliot about Yay's capabilities off-screen he probably thinks they're just Mellon's upscale slightly arrogant friend.

Andrew L Butula

Yeah, tough guy crossed arms you tuck your hands, whereas Elliot is more grabbing his own upper arms. Doesn't have the same "fuck you" visual effect but probably smarter for a bouncer. Things can escalate quickly, and with Elliot's stance his top arm is totally free, and his bottom arm only slightly less so.

Andrew L Butula

This Just In: Robo-Cthulhu Suffers Massive Burn By Local Cinnamon Roll

lazymagpie

That crossed arms stance looks... defensive. Like he's a woman who (thinks she) just caught a man looking at her boobs, or something.

Daryl Sawyer

I guess it's hard to be spooky when he's seen you fussing his cat for twenty minutes.

Solomon Garland

I like the fact that Yay is briefly surprised at how intimidating Elliot is. I wonder if she's ever felt fear before.

Summer Sudbrink

Elliot.. the biggest baddest softy-est most fearless-est adorable-est guy in the entire comic.

No longer the giant squid to everyone else's reef fish.

Mark

Yes. Considering a big part of Elliot’s job would be politely and calmly asking someone that maybe they could stop drinking and maybe call it a night, and would they like him to Call them an Uber?

Thisguy

I'm genuinely disturbed by how accurate this characterisation is... that must be why they like Roko! They WANT Officer Roko to impose some discipline on them :)

Stephen Wells

Some would say "Being intimidating is my job" but for Eliot it's "part of one of my jobs" and that's rather pleasing :)

Stephen Wells

30 seconds later: - Strange, what's up with that red light coming from the sky? - Ah, it's just military satellite targeting system. Now, shall we try again?

Evgeniy Semyonov

I guess a spooky "no" is less scary than "you think you're sho tough, I'll knock your fucking head off"?

Solomon Garland

For Elliot to react like that, I have to wonder what kind of assholes he's had to deal with before XD

Rat Mann

I love Yay's "I just rolled a friggin' ONE" look. :D

Brian English

Womp womp

Dean Reilly

Yay has lost their mojo. Their eyes have gotten rounder and their smile cuter than the first time we saw them being *really* spooky. (That and the lack of computationally inflicted pain). https://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=3413

Bruce Steinberg

Yay can control the world's information but not get away with acting too drunk on Eliot's watch

Bagge

Very good choice!

Andrew Mitchell

So, what has been scary is the question to reduce Yay as little.

Akashimo Hakubi

Alice Groove was so good

Leave Nelson B

I mean, I know that's not the intention, but this really made me miss Alice Grove

Thomas Halpin

I just hope it doesn't end in Yay attempting to find a way to be REALLY intimidating. Traumatized Elliot would totally botch his date with Clinton.

Evgeniy Semyonov

Yay's reaction here made me laugh out loud.

Andrew Mitchell

Oh my Lord I just got intense Bratty Sub vibes from Yay. Or maybe two switches battling for control vibes

Freedom

They. They were just fawning all over Hercules. There is noone in that room that identifies as "she".

FeyOne

Aaaaaannd... point to Elliot.

Hugh Eckert

Familiarity breeds contempt. Or at least a lack of intimidation.

Ted Van Roekel

That is both a) the best name I have heard for such a place in some time and b) conjuring unfortunate images in my imagination.

Hugh Eckert

Spookybot is the deity we need, but don’t deserve.

MrFrenchFries

That might have gone differently if she hadn't just been fawning all over Hercules.

Paracog Steadham

Lol im dying of laughter rn

We are NOT accustomed to being taken less than seriously.

Sleepy John

Well this just made me nostalgic for Alice's Grove

Ami

I love those eyes

Kyle Major

Yay, he's had his nose broken by an unruly patron. Your little flashy eyes thing doesn't phase him a bit.

awgiedawgie

While it's true that Yay could easily incapacitate Elliot with hardly a touch, that would be cheating here. Any ordinary person that he might encounter as a bouncer would be easy for him to handle.

awgiedawgie

Elliott reminds me of a bouncer that may have worked in a nearby, ah.... Dance place nicknamed Porn in the Corn

GodsInTheCogs

Oh no! Yay's been domesticated! They aren't spooky anymore! Haha

Dylan T

Hm...Elliot/Clinton/Yay! love triangle?

z

1. I like where you are going with that... but... 2. Yay is a they not a she. Though this particular body might be female gendered based purely on the clothing.

Matthew Van Gangelen

Frame 5 is my new game avatar - imma not asking 🖤

Aussie Jim

This is easily one of my top strips.

Onyx

Spookybot... Have you uncovered a new obsession? :)

Joseph Bonnar

Lol. That’s the problem with people like Elliot, they lack imagination to believe that someone that small could possibly be scared and dangerous.

Thisguy

I love Elliot - he is me, a disaster bisexual. And I LOVE LOVE LOVE Spookybot's reaction!

Onyx

Elliot is awake. Therefore, Death cannot take him. Not because Death has to wait until he's asleep, but because Elliot would beat Death up and keep beating him up until Death gives him something to make him go away. It's the same way Elliot got his baking skills. He got them from the Devil. Elliot didn't sell his soul-he just kept beating up the Devil until the Devil gave him something to make him go away.

z

Exactly. He’s probably used to it by now too.

VC

spookybot continues to be my favorite

phoebe

OH WELL PLAYED SIR! (still adorable). SPOOPYBOT HAHA

SpookyPenguin

Yes. All of the character exist in a state of quantum supershippingposition where all of the relationships are valid. Simultaneously. Except Bubbles/Pintsize, because there is NOT ENOUGH neurological trauma to make that work.

z

Lol! Poor spookybot. What was she expecting when they both are being intimidating and resisting each other?

VC

Yay looks like a goth-flavored version of Clinton in these latest strips.

Scott Gosnell

As I understand it Yay is a hive mind. A “Them” not a “Him”. Their individual bodies might be gendered but subtly so. Then again they might be all barbie dolls down there. Edit: Thanks for that.

Matthew Van Gangelen

Was totally just thinking that!

Kenneth

Elliot appears to have poor death perception.

BobC

Oh god it's the Alice Grove Eyes

James Cummings

not to sound like a noob, i've been reading QC long enough that i shouldn't have to ask, but is Jeph seriously going to make us ship whichever bunch of characters happen to be sharing a frame or

skinnybdink

1) It's his job not to be intimidated by people woofing and 2) He is too nice to say "I've left scarier things than you in the toilet."

Todd Ellner

I love these two.

JD

Elliot bounced a demon once. Not a robot that was acting like a demon. An ACTUAL demon. From Hell. Admittedly, it WAS a slow Tuesday night...

z

I don't know where this is going to go, but I like it!

Matt Grayson

We wouldn’t admit to it if we were... which obviously we weren’t.

Matthew Van Gangelen

*whispers* I ship it? No, I mustn’t

Mr. Ifrit

Well, let's be fair, Yay! is small, petite, and unarmed. Elliot has probably bounced GIRLS that are taller, more muscular, either wielding a bottle or straight razor (maybe both), and so drunk that the idea of getting in a fight with the human bear is a Good Idea. We've had at least one or two scenes where Elliot been half-way in a fight, bleeding, and is still being NICE while getting ready to kick somebody's ass. So, Yay! might be creepy, but Elliot's reading of Yay! is "creepy, but might be relying more on being a creepy ass that can read the room well, rather any real competence." The hilarious scene of Yay! being thrown out a window when Yay! tries to push it, going back and complaining that Elliot surprised Yay! and THIS TIME Yay! will succeed... Only to be thrown out ANOTHER window. Maybe the same one as before-windows are expensive!

z

I love his little clap so much.

Jackie Horn

The idea of Spooky realizing they've lost their mojo amuses me.

BioYuGi

Yay has the Spirit of Violence within themselves.

Emma Humphries

Look, Yay, you've got to understand. You're sober and composed, not ranting drunkenly and about to try and wield a broken whiskey bottle at him.

Graeme Lewis

That’s gold!

Matthew Van Gangelen

Spookypass denied.

Spoogle McGee

Yay was NOT expecting that. Eliot has seen things... patrons drunk on evil beer for one.

Douglas E. Smith

To wield the grin one needs the high ground

doorbender

*their

Pejo

Yay has had relatively few interactions with humans. They probably think all humans are like Faye or Emily.

Michael Boettger

They... were pretty spooky when they first showed up. Back in the suits/pre-athleisure wear days.

Pejo

I'm so proud this cinnamon roll is so unphaseable

Alcaria Swain

Yay, isn't as intimidating as they think they are. Now, if they would touch Eliot and drop him to the floor, he might be impressed.

Michael Boettger

Yay can’t help it, cat too powerful.

Miyaa

Yeah i stopped being afraid of monsters when I realized I was bigger then them

Kris

Fuck. I totally forgot about Alice Grove. I need to go back and re-read it again!!

Julienne Ignace

It’s the grin, the grin tones down the scary

FuzzyDragon Cosplay

Spookybot has met its match! 😜

Cliff

Anyone else aroused by Yays act of defiance? No? Just me?? Got it

Jareth Fullbringer

ah hahh hahahhah hahah... (breathe) Hahha haha ha....

Alacrity Fitzhugh

NGL that made me legitimately concerned...

Jeremy Tighe

Can I get a womp

Magic Chopstick Games

I mean, with normal clothing on, that demeanor is EXTREMELY not as potent.

R L

Ah yes the Alice Grove grin

Evan

Awww were leaning tsundere so hard

Max D S

Oh noes. Yay isn’t scary.

Miyaa

i blame hercules

Tamara Macadam

Oh boy, I can't wait to see what happens when Yay goes super spooky.

Nicholas Lopez

"Formerly known as spookybot" Lulz!!!😂 🙈🤣

Julienne Ignace

Elliot is a bar bouncer. He doesn't scare easily! Yay is out of their depth, here!

Grace Kieser

Haha so off their game with him.
