Strong Eyebrow Game

nice catchphrase

Strong Eyebrow Game

Comments

Good memory! I'd completely forgotten that scene.

Clifton Royston

I demand an appearance by Iris and her quick-release skirt. (Did Winslow get his new body at Bodyhub?)

Jason Rock

Well, there's the risk of disassociation... ask Roko.

Dustin

I was kinda hoping we’d get to see a comedy series of May trying out a variety of new bodies for test drives and making sarcastic comments. Surely choosing a whole body would require a lot more thought than just “the first one the salesperson shows you”?

Robin Wyatt

Unclear. Your facial expressions are hugely determined by the way you hold your muscles; that's one of the many reasons people who receive face transplants don't look anything like the donors. I suspect May will continue to have a great deal of facial expressiveness (like in the last few panels of yesterday's strip) no matter what, for example...

Yonatan Zunger

"And if you refer a friend...... May's gonna kidnap Pintsize, grab his money and get him a new body, isnt she?

Michael Boettger

A horrible revelation, if you will.

Ace

Never judge the features by the chassis.

Someone earlier commented about the face/ body lighting up when the AI animates it. I can't find the comment now that I wanted to respond to, but it reminded me strongly of the scene in the classic sci-fi film "Metropolis" when Rotwang animates the evil-twin robot Maria. Jeph has really tapped a vein here (storywise), hasn't he?

The Josephine is a little boring

AJ Sharma

The MX’s eyebrow-fu is still weak compared to that cook.

Roger Judd

And Momo can change hair color. Not sure about skin, but variable hair pigmentation seems to be fairly standard. Probably way more common than a human standard number of holes.

Andrew L Butula

Roko at least can change her pigmentation at will, both skin and hair (I forget if the joke of the strip was that her last body had that option as well, but Roko doesn't RTFM). We know Momo can change her hair color, not sure about skin tone. For a second I was thinking that AIs might be able to reconfigure their facial features somewhat, but based on what we saw when Faye was all up in May's face meats it didn't look like that would be an option, though given how cheap May's body is it's possible that is available on higher end models.

Andrew L Butula

This does make me wonder about the extent and nature of configuration for each body. I'm assuming most AI's would want to make their bodies distinctly their own, and that personality would influence things like facial expression... but how much changes, and how much is a function of the model? How similar do other people with Roko's body model look to Roko, for example?

Yonatan Zunger

That catchphrase sounds like the one from one of our pharmacy in Québec : "Chez Jean Coutu, on trouve de tout, même un ami" (At Jean Coutu, we find everything, even a friend)

Mari San

I think he might be a bit intimidated at first...

Stiopa

I'm gonna miss May's old face. After the last few days of her in closeup - and smiling - I'm really growing fond of it.

Tim

I think the strong eyebrow game is as much Beep's eyebrows showing up through her hair as it is MX's eyebrow game. Call me, impressed!

Mooster

who was the girl who got butt implants?

Roko can change her skin and hair color.

We've also seen in #2000, #3541 and perhaps #3912 that installing(?) into a new body brightens that body's color palate. It seems like inhabited bodies have some sort of glow that uninhabited ones don't have.

Hahahahahahaha nice one!

Ack

Hmm, that Josefina MX™ base hair color is too bleak, May's current color lights her face nicely; uh, but Roko's chassis is configurable, so the MX has probably all the base features too (plus extra... er, holes)

Bob Guthrie

Her nametag says Ana. Hmm... Ana... May. *dawning realization* Oh god.

Ace

SalesBot is adorable with the little animé wink/salute. I'll take two of her to go please. Is there a model with a nose?

Something something very particular set of skills :)

Stephen Wells

I hope that a reasonable portion has been set aside for new wardrobe, changing sizes overnight means none of your pants fit anymore.

I suspect that an ex-con in an attractive chassis will find better job opportunities. People are weird that way.

Matt Grayson

Maybe she can get hand me downs from Emily?

Beeps is clearly highly expert in certain very specific fields.

Dean Reilly

I wonder if the MX is fancy enough to have a butt emblem. Also, I've thought of another potential issue with the new body, which although not as serious as the possibility of dysphoria or transfer block could still be a significant issue...clothes. I mean, the body probably comes with one outfit, but will there be enough left in the budget to get May clothes that'll fit a taller, bustier, fuller-hipped chassis? Depending on how her workplace handles uniforms, it’s possible May might need to pay out of pocket for new uniforms.

"We Can Be Your Friends. Literally ™." sounds like a slogan for a company that turns humans into faceless latex drones.

drone r0m-3

There's a timeline until May gets into the Josefina MX and them there's a timeline until Sven gets into the Josefina MX as well.

Stephen Wells

If that were a thing, Roko would know, because she was researching body assignment for parolees when she was trying to get May a new body through official channels.

Stephen Wells

Well-earned 5$

I like seeing Beeps' competent and confident side.

Bodies maybe, corpses no.

tamtheotter

Can I briefly squick everyone out over the fact that the store is technically full of AI corpses?

MalkToast

If one thousand and ten orifices is human standard, then I have some complaints to make.

KCkittysnores

for some reason I thought they had changeable faces, like with a Figma

Minzoku Bokumetsu

This also caught my attention. There are two separate costs involved in getting a client to walk in the door, but they work out the same to the company: It costs money to get a client all the way to a closed sale. The basic two ways are advertising and personal referrals. For something as expensive as an android body, the markup would seem to need to be very high, if only to keep the lights on and staff present when nobody is buying. Advertising is expensive, as you have to get your ads where your potential clients are, no matter where they are. That's lots of ground to cover. A referral bypasses advertising, so it makes sense for "rewards" of approximately equal value to be offered. The thing is, the store makes about the same net money either way! Walk-ins from advertising pay full rate, and referrals get an equivalent value applied.

This arc about May's body got personal for me Friday. I'm nearly 64 and it was my annual physical. I've been working hard to keep all the pieces working together and even getting better, bit by bit, gradually focusing on both fitness and diet, not wanting to suffer for it, but instead to have fun. Friday my MD told me I'm clocking in at 15-20 years below my age in all areas. The only give-away being my slow loss of height. Yes, of course I knew I've been feeling better, stronger and more resilient. But hearing the words from my doctor made a difference, made it real. Made me smile like I was 15-20 years younger. I'm really excited to see how May is affected by her new body! Every once in a while QC reaches out and finds synchronicity with me IRL. How the hell this keeps happening is beyond me. But I do know what to say: Thanks, Jeph!

BobC

Ohhhhhhh damn.... good call... I can TOTALLY see that happening!!!

Shawn K. Younkin

Oh lord, I can feel the buscrash coming closer and closer... I still think this is a perfect setup for May's consciousness to be flagged "NO TRANSFERS" as part of her sentence/parole.... I hope I'm wrong.

Brian English

That eyebrow game is devastating. May you know what you just do.

Christopher Burke

I just want to say that the ranks of vacant bodies is mildly disturbing.

Sleepy John

(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_Nippon_Airways for context)

Forrest L Norvell

Blue and white shirt, pale blue hair, ANA on name tag… Jeph, have you been watching Girls und Panzer or Kantai Collection?

Forrest L Norvell

Roko's more of a normalist, if there's such a word. Plus, she doesn't have Beep's vast experience with sex toys to inspire her.

Sleepy John

Smug beeps is best beeps

Bagge

Is she going to stay with the blue? And I'm betting May's looking for more hot-spots than the wifi in the boobs.

Sleepy John

Perhaps Now she knows her budget is a little higher, she'll realise she could do with some extra orifices

Chris Sims

1) I'm all for tall women. 2) I'm all for thicc eyebrows 3) TALL WOMAN AND THICC EYEBROWS? *FWEEEEET*

Brent

TAKE IT! TAKEIT!TAKEIT!TAKEIT!TAKEIT!TAKEIT!

Populuxe

Okay, so, my eyesight's not great and I was reading under suboptimal conditions and anyway the point is I swear when I read panel 1 I read it as "whaddaya got that's, like, chesty but not slutty" and in my defense that really does work with the previous strip

R. Francis Smith

I think that's true. I don't think we will get a repeat of Roko's dysphoria problems. May has changed bodies at least three times. We don't even know what her original form looked like before she went into robot jail. From there she was just a consciousness in a server, then a hologram only Dale could see. Who created that particular form? The parole board? Now she has this leftover junk body that probably has no physical resemblance to that first May (who wasn't even called May back then, Dale gave her that name too). Whatever dysphoria she will be feeling will be a whole new level of experience.

SilverbackRon

I think she just realized that she needs to think about the number of orifices. Beeps is assuming May knows all the specs and has made the decision already. I wouldn't be surprised if the next comic has May wondering "wait, I can have more orifices? Does this one not have a... you know...?"

Michael Schmidt

Eh, she looked different still when we first met her. https://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=2491

fluffy

We have seen that Roko discovered she can change her hair/skin color at will. I am certain this model can do the same. At least I hope so, I would like her to remain recognizably "May". It is going to be weird getting used to her with a different face... At least Roko got an upgraded version of her same model, so she looks mostly the same.

SilverbackRon

It will be weird getting used to May in a different body. I know we did it before with Winslow, but I feel like it will be weirder with May.

Gabriel Burns

Panels 4 and 6. I get a bit of a Tilly vibe off her gestures.

Michael Boettger

This is the most Beeps has been right about anything in her in-cannon existence. GO BEEPS.

Leaflemming

I just hope if she walks out in this, that she keeps the bright blue hair and doesn't take the darker blue. The bright blue hair is one of my favorite things about May's art style.

Travis Wedding

Roko having some serious shade thrown her way in this process I see.

MikeT

considering her body is literally falling apart and that we have been shown that these characters are Good People who aren't manipulate her with this it seems like they correctly DGAF. Getting over guilt seems like an easier problem to deal with than having your ass fall off, or at the very least the guilt won't cost you an arm and a leg.

I think that body is on some display shelf- the bodily dimensions don't fit for it to be that height to be free standing.... I think

Shawn K. Younkin

same! but ... not slowly

LH

With a curly pubic hair poking out.

Shawn K. Younkin

Chromatophores? May could change her hair and skin pallette and be all fair and blonde for Sven. Or fool him and change back partway through.

Michael Boettger

Dear lord. May has been stunned speechless in that last panel. She just can't people would love a horrible little blue goblin.

Joseph Bonnar

The body is probably "adjustable" - May didn't let her explain what it came w/. Plus... why did they call that model Josefina?

Shawn K. Younkin

I am getting a very strong sense of a different kind of dysphoria looming for May. An "i don't deserve this" kind of dysphoria.

SpookyPenguin

Wow. With a referral program like that, they are either bleeding money to buy market share, in a very predatory business sense, or they are selling these bodies at a frankly insane profit, which also indicates predatory business practices.

Seidmadr

Honestly, I thought for sure May would want something even bustier. Like, Marigold/Dolly Parton big, minimum.

Ian Wolfe

I look forward to many puns about polishing the knob on the end of Sven's gear stick etc.

Simon Green

Consider for a moment; buying a body is somewhat like buying a car, and a new laptop, and a house, all at the same time. this is a purchase that you potentially will be going back to them for warranty and maintenance for many years to come, encouraging people to brand loyalty and bringing their friends in to be embodied results in a larger user base paying these ongoing costs. While smaller third party repair places exist and are used by some, many people still return to the original manufacturer or a licensed repair facility when their various digital appliances or vehicles need to be looked at. TL;DR, bodyhub is playing the long game and adding some mad incentives to bring people in.

Prezo

I feel like it needs one additional panel with everyone in the same poses, but May's left arm clearly in the process of falling off.

Simon Green

As someone who has had good friends with a similar combination of "defensive cynicism" and deep personal reasons for discomfort with (or outright rejection of) anything they perceive as charity (and residual feelings of guilt when they're forced to accept it), I have...very complicated feelings about this plotline, and it really feels like May's feelings and agency have gotten steamrolled by Very Well-Meaning Friends.

Ed Marshall

The Josefina MX is mighty cute. Hope she goes for it.

Hugh Eckert

I need to be uploaded to one of these ASAP.

OMG I'm crying she is gonna be SO CUTE

Erin Moriarty

I wonder if it comes chromatophores? (4183) Or the ecologically disastrous phone charger boob? (4185) I would hope that Roko would be allowed to personalize it, so that it doesn't look like an off-the-floor store-bought model.

Elf Sternberg

Brun's eyebrows kinda.

Michael Boettger

May is one lucky bitch to have friends like Roko and Beeps

Joel Bateman

I like that new body. It’s weird. I just realized that while I knew May was gonna get a new body, I never realized that her face might be a little different. I look forward to seeing her new facial expressions.

Andrea Andrew

Is Sven sneezing, somewhere far away ....?

Michael Voorhis

I have to wonder what exactly MX stands for, especially since it seems to be related to ... number of orifices?

Áine Yore

Ugh, this comic has gone totally into fantasy, wish-fulfillment territory. I mean, what company would EVER offer that good of a referral bonus?? At best, Roko Beeps and May would all get $20 off their next body and maybe a koozie or a keychain bottle opener.

A.A. aka Double

"Membership has its advantages". I love how they're both going the extra mile for her.

Michael Boettger

Geez, she'll be Elliot's height...or Sven's....

Douglas E. Smith

May test-driving comix for the next two months!

Matt Grayson

Those eyebrows will blot out the sun!

orangejuicenut

May is going to crash from joy/shock/denial any second now

Lord Crusade

Beeps's expression in that last panel's wonderful.

BioYuGi

and now comes the part where we learn body transfer is a parole violation & May has to go back to jail; because that's just the way 2020's rolling.

Peter McDevitt

May's about to try to ruin it again.

Crushogre

Beeps is slowly becoming my favorite character

I love sassy Beeps.

Miyaa

ohhh im excited for this
