Recyclable Drinking Utensils

Arthur...

We need more Beeps!

George Wilson

Wait. Arthur? What happened to Nelson?

It's not a coup if the ascending leader doesn't actively seek the position, and the outgoing leader abdicates the throne.

awgiedawgie

Thinking back to when we met Nelson, there was a display of at least 9 months worth of employee of the month, and at the time we all thought it was Nelson. But if Arthur is someone different who looks virtually identical except for the kind of tie worn, then Nelson and Arthur have been in fierce competition. Possibly Nelson with his paperclip versus Arthur with his fire extinguisher. Now the biggest question in my mind is why do I keep wanting to spell Arthur as Aurthur?

Some Ed

Gosh, panel 3 Roko is pretty.

Daryl Sawyer

It's more like she was the hidden "true heir", with a prince regent only too eager to step down once she arrived.

Daryl Sawyer

As in "Um, why am I getting a friendly transponder signal from this bot? ... Oh, right, it's that line."

Some Ed

I wonder how they haven't burned down the building yet

Tachpmg

Is it just me or did Roko inadvertently stage a coup?

Nikki

I'm with Arthur! I enjoy being the capable underling!!

In my considerable workplace experience, you get one or the other, never both.

And all that Roko wants are human abs... https://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=3700

Joseph Bonnar

But it's also possible that Bubbles has some . . . specialized . . . sensors.

Alex Borders

I assume it's recognizable from civilian models, because Bubbles recognized that it was a military chassis immediately.

Thomas Halpin

Called it. Beeps got the job without much of a choice.

awgiedawgie

I'm... really fucking envious of a cartoon robot's abs. Thanks, Jeph

Ami

One of the many bad decisions involved in the design process of Pintsize's chassis, and everything else involving Pintsize

Bagge

What about being a capable leader and having responsibility for a few good underlings?

In retrospect, this should have been visible coming. Beeps has been trying to *hurl* her responsibilities at Roko for a while now. :-)

David Pipes

Pintsize had a civilian chassis originally, but that was lost in a cake-related incident. The military one was (probably) designed to be externally indistinguishable from a common, harmless-looking model.

I'm with Arthur on this one. I'd rather be capable underling instead of responsible leader.

Onomatopoeia

No, but my guess is that he had an "in" with Corporal Klinger.

Joseph Bonnar

I think you mean Beepocrazy.

Daniel Rydberg

Did we ever find out how Arthur got the experimental military Chassis?

Thomas Halpin

Aw, poor beeps. I hope I'm more competent than she is but I would find the situation ("guess what, U R in charge now!") at least as horrifying as she does.

Blakey

I used to read Flaky Pastry and can't remember why I stopped. Did it have a hiatus?

Valraven

And being in management is a headache. Better to be a valued employee, so long as you get listed to, and have a manager who just lets you get on with the job.

Thisguy

Thought I remembered the term "shortstraw" from another comic... http://flakypastry.runningwithpencils.com/comic.php?strip_id=762

Joseph Bonnar

The expression on Roko's face in panel 4 says everything possible about this particular strip. Bravo, Jeph!

Joseph Bonnar

Some are born to lead, some have leadership thrust upon them and others just get the short straw.

kaitou

God this explains so much

BioYuGi

that's... exactly how I would end up the boss D=

Minzoku Bokumetsu

Or, Arthur and Nelson are the same AI who realized they can draw two paychecks from this job because Beeps would just take at face value that there are two, Pint-size model AIs who she differentiates by whether they're wearing a tie or a bowtie.

Valraven

Right there with you.

Everett Bradshaw

Honestly, it's amazing the place wasn't on fire when Roko first walked in. Maybe Arthur is just really capable with a fire extinguisher.

Valraven

so either there's TWO little pink guys that work there (possible as Nelson seems to always wair a bowtie and arthur is wearing a necktie) or the writers forgot his name

Brad Kirkwood

Yep, he was named Nelson as of #3954: https://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=3954

Huntokar

I assumed Roko assumed it was a local branch of a larger NPO. I am thinking either this means it's just a local NPO or it's the head office and OMG.

Some Ed

Yep, this just reeks of plot-twist where something bad happens and Roku (now "in charge") gets left holding the bag.

Bartley J Drood

Sounds like SOMEONE is about to get the short straw...

Bagge

I'm sure she would be very... enthusiastic

Bagge

When did his name change? I thought the little pink Pintsize guy was Nelson, and Arthur was Melon's roommate.

Grace Kieser

Honestly, Beeps looks like a yoga instructor with those clothes. I wonder if she would be good at that...

Bailey Tighe

With a pencil? ;)

Andrew Mitchell

Clearly, Arthur knows about the Peter principle. If you promote people who show competence, then in the end they'll be stuck at a position that they're not good enough at to get promoted from.

Rob McBobson

It's surprising that Roko hasn't had an inkling that Beeps was the boss. Doesn't seam that there is much personnel and I assume it's either a local NPO or at least a local branch of a larger one. I know the local things like the Lions club or vet's club in my area is only got an handful of people running them.

James Cooper

Poor Beeps. She really does need someone like Roko.

Um...how would Arthur actually draw this proverbial straw?

Michael Boettger

I hate how attracted I am to Beeps

Alcaria Swain

What I love here is how alarmed Roko is on discovering that Beeps is the end of the reporting chain. I sort of think many people, on meeting their god, may end up with her expression in panel 4.

Yonatan Zunger

OMG I am 100% on board with the insanity that is about to ensue

Also, one thing I learned very quickly in working for a local nonprofit organization how little people answer to a boss. You need some organization, but it is often surprisingly flat.

Miyaa

He looks like a tiny referee.

Spoogle McGee

It's a literal Beepocracy.

Spoogle McGee

We need more pinstriped robots!

Miyaa

Oh. That explains... A little, anyway.

gatherer818

Well.... that explains a lot.
