I use the V5 for drawing, but I haven't found anything better than the G2 for writing. I prefer the Blue Ultrafine, but they're hard to come by anymore outside of a dedicated Office Supply store.

Only if it can't be easily corrected by returning (or reselling) it. Of course, if Beeps goes to return it and comes back with something that's twice as expensive, that won't count as correcting the problem.

My preference for cheap is the Uni-ball Roller in micro point. (I'll also accept a Pilot Precise V5, although it's not quite as fine... and now I'm wondering where my Pilot Hi-Tecpoint V5 Cartridge System went...)

There's much to be said about a good pen. But on the other hand you can't get that much better than a Pilot G2, and those are $2-$4.
