Elliot isn't doing himself any favors
Back in my day all we had were enemies. Nowadays people have so many friends they have to worry that they're secretly enemies. Must be nice.

He probably got endurance also - otherwise he would be much more miserable working two jobs and making occasional social visits.

The longer this plot goes on, the more i find myself in Elliot. I thought i was Martin for the longest time, but Elliott came in and was all like, "LOOK AT ME. THIS IS YOU"

Sadly Elliot has a right to have that fear. I have known way too many people who have done this or had it done to. Elliot probably has seen it a bunch at the bars because that is where the "score" usually happens in this messed up game. Sometimes, the 'game' is meant to pick up the person on the rebound and sometimes it is just comes out as some sort of unconscious "I want some schadenfreude" desire.

Some of my best friends suddenly decided to cancel the upcoming D&D session because I was suddenly able to atttend, having gotten laid off from my weekend job. This was the second phone call; the first had been them saying, Oh great! so glad you can show up! And hten 2 hours later, this. Because the previous time I'd showed up during a vacation from work, I'd done something that had upset them. Which they hadn't told me at the time. And now were so upset over the possibility of it happening that they were planning on cancelling *the entire game* rather than tell me of a problem. This happened about 15 years ago. I still consider them some of my best friends, but on my side the friendship hasn't recovered, and I'm traveling 90 minutes each way to play with an RPG group because I can't bring myself to play with them anymore. I never thought I'd end up with friends who wouldn't tell me about a problem. I have no idea if I have anyone I consider a friend who would set me up for something *specifically in order to make fun of me when it fails*. I did have classmates in grade school who did that sort of thing. This is probably why I have so few friends.

Note to Renee: Words about feelings are not the same as words about facts. This causes immense problems talking about how one feels. "I'm afraid that you secretly resent me." or "I feel like you secretly resent me." is NOT THE SAME as "I believe that you resent me."

1-Elliot knows EXACTLY what kind of comic he's in, he's got that much meta awareness.
2-Google "Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria."
Welcome to my life. And Elliot's.

I possibly know people who tolerate me only because of shared social group, but I also have friends who I know wouldn't hesitate a second to tell me if they had a problem with me, and would tell me to f--- off in a heartbeat if they hated me.
