Having witnessed an opossum groom itself, I'm of the opinion that the reason their fur looks so patchy and clumpy is because they groom themselves with *their mouths*. (Apparently opossums have the most teeth of any animal native to North America.) The way opossums groom themselves is equal parts saddening, disturbing, and hilarious. One opossum would hang out near my back door constantly, and it'd groom itself whenever it could tell we were looking at it. I think it wanted to trick my family into thinking it was a cat so we'd let it in and live with us, but that trash rat wasn't fooling anyone.

We have yard possums because our neighbor leaves out cat food. there is nothing quite like going up a 12 foot ladder to retrieve your dog from a branch in the tree because she chased a possum, while the possum is just 3 feet over your shoulder on a different branch. Luckily possums don't really want to interact with humans. We put a fence around that tree so the dog can't climb it anymore. Don't get me started on the raccoons...

Complaint about Patreon's ugly and annoying cropping of images lodged.

I've been around opossums in the US. One on our fence was driving our poor dog crazy; I had to remove it from the fence. I used a large push broom. Ever see an opposum's TEETH? (No, I did NOT hurt the animal. It grabbed the broom and I just lifted it up and carried it to the nearby neighbor's yard.)
