Vitruvian Robot

better to ask permission than seek forgiveness on this one

More Jim + Veronica, please! :D

MA Caiti

I don’t think Sven would do smooth. More than once, anyway ... ... ...

Bill Hall

Why do you assume a norm, beyond individual preference (and economics, of course. Complicated is expensive. Hence why May has a low-rent frame and appliances.)

Bill Hall

Now imagining this into that scene in The Graduate. "I want to say two words to you, Benjamin. Just two words." "Modular genitalia."

Clifton Royston

Jeph, thank-you for all these years that you've been putting out this comic, and all your work, sir.. I really enjoy following your work.. Thanks for everything, sir..

Ronald Burdick

'Barbie/Ken'

Douglas E. Smith

I assume smooth like May

Cole Blackblood

I'm confused, what is the AI norm, if not that?

(Brings a whole new meaning to "plug and play...")

Yonatan Zunger

I just have two words for you: modular genitalia.

Yonatan Zunger

"gynoform somatype"? As opposed to "feminine"... Surely with all the vast array of possibilities there would be nomenclature.

Jim, your wife who gave her son dildos as baby toys is probably not going to be backing you up on anything to do with Sam & “adult” anatomy.

Bruce Steinberg

Sam is heart-meltingly adorable in panels 3-5.

GragSmash

Isn’t “human standard” speciesist?

Bill Hall

Even as a former Latin student I had to go look that up, and discovering the Vitruvian principles of architecture makes the original joke twice as good. Beauty, sturdiness, and usefulness are excellent criteria for butts, and also for genitalia.

Clifton Royston

Am I the only one who finds the word “dongle” vaguely risqué?

Philip D Jones

I just want to say I love this community.

Ted Van Roekel

If Jim is going to be cranky every time Faye checks in with him maybe he shouldn’t set that as the baseline expectation.

I cracked up at the word "Now" in the last panel :D I do commiserate with the poor fellow, for a long while he was Sam's only parent and so must feel very protective of her, and worries about her safety, but at the same time knows that Faye and Bubbles are wonderful role models and he feels grateful to them for that, so doesn't want to restrict Sam from learning from them. Today's strip conveys that so well.

Definitely a comfort issue. I have to be gentle when sitting down on a non-padded chair.

awgiedawgie

I also have no butt and it's more of a comfort/ergonomic problem than an aesthetic issue for me. It's a fool who looks for logic in the chambers of the human heart, or in this case the pants area of strangers.

Dinosaur Sheriff

I dunno, she seemed to work just fine with Sven's....dongle.

jimfromtx

Why aren't there tiny little butts bouncing at the bottom of each frame?

Dancing on the Edge of Sanity

I mean if I have a choice between having sexy times or something I’m never gonna see I’m gonna choose the sexy times.

SheepFace2000

Ok, so here's what I don't get, if she cares enough about human appearance as to have realistic genitals then why doesn't she have a nose? I mean, yeah, I'm sure lady bits are a bit more important than a nose, but if both are just options then why wouldn't she have both? Don't get me wrong, she's cute without a nose, she doesn't NEED a nose, but she also doesn't NEED realistic genitals since most AI are walking around without them apparently. And your nose is right in the middle of your face. Unless you're walking around naked people notice your face a lot sooner than your genitals.

Yelling Bird

Mostly I just use old backgrounds as reference when I’m drawing a new one, so the props stay in more or less the same location. It helps that the shop is basically a big open rectangle!

Jeph Jacques

Panel 6 is so very relateable.

James Dore

Why so? There's no sexual context implied, it's a simple medical/mechanical procedure. Or do you think that teenagers should not even know about human (or human compatible) physiology until they are 18?

Evgeniy Semyonov

I could see, given the option, that May might just go with a cloaca.

Eric

Who nose?

Captain Button

*snicker* robobunghole *snicker*

I internalised that word after having been on a Trivia Night team which completely failed to come up with the name of Da Vinci's drawing.

Mark

Anatomically correct? Where's her nose?

Thomas A. Dennis

Who does May have to hump to get human standard lady parts for her new chassis? (Is chassis the right word?)

Miyaa

Mrm... Hopefully they don't let Sam be part of it. I know Millfeeul is an AI, but still... That feels a little wrong to have a child there for that.

Something I've noticed is the shops and other commonly used locations seem to have relatively consistent backgrounds and lots of rotations. Do you have references you drew/sketched for them all?

Kurtis S Whittington

The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced she's right.

Nutjob

Well, maybe not "show" in this case.

Victor Frost

Sam will have the best show and tell come autumn

Bagge

You know, one of the most common things I've noticed in queer experience is as a teenager being strictly prevented from spending time in possibly compromising ways with the opposite sex, with exactly zero rules being set up around doing so with the same sex. Just sayin'. :big grin:

Yonatan Zunger

Venustas, firmitas, et quoque utilitas est.

Todd Perkins

well, to be fair, Jim's just echoing Faye

Minzoku Bokumetsu

By the way, was I the only one on here who had to do a web search to find out what "Vitruvian" meant? And Jeph? I would LOVE a sketch of Millfeeul in the Da Vinci style. :)

Joseph Bonnar

Come on, Jim... You know Sam is going to end up studying this stuff in college anyway, so it's just as well that she gets some on-the-job training. There might be some room for concern if Millfeeul were a male human-standard android.

awgiedawgie

On the other hand, the frogs themselves are delirious with joy NOT to be the target of Sam's interest. Now if only the SNAKES would leave them alone then everything would be "RIBBIT!"

Joseph Bonnar

That also explains why she why so shy to take off her pants.

JD

And Jim looks like he's regretting not letting Sam just go catch frogs.

Michael Boettger

it's educational!

Waffliesinyoface

This AI has rapidly become my favorite character.

Jayne Lindgren

hehe butts hehe

SpookyPenguin

May is going to walk in on them and scream in envy, isn't she?

Captain Button

"anatomically correct" is insensitive? looks like I can add Data to the list of fictional characters I owe an apology!

Matt

And Millfeull is touchingly concerned if it's really appropriate if Sam observes, as she is "human standard".

Michael Boettger

Whelp, that explains that. NEXT MYSTERY!

Kinda Squirrely

And given her experience, I would defer to her choice of words here.

Michael Boettger

These kids grow up so fast.

Andrea Andrew

hahah, i love Veronica

I'd like a "human standard" brain... Wait no I don't.
