Alternate theory: Faye already recognizes the provenance of the pube, and she probably knows how May got the money for the new dermal covering. So she's not bugging May about it at this moment, because she wrongly believes that Sven is *paying* May, and doesn't have the heart to ask for money obtained under such circumstances. (How she feels about Sven's part in it is another matter.) When Faye finds out their hookups weren't for money, *then* it's going to get awkward.

There's no other business that this is taking the place of, so no opportunity cost. Probably minimal wear and tear on their tools, and a five dollar part. If a whale came in and said "make me thicc, pronto" May would get her hip tomorrow. Faye is not giving away the store here.

Short version:multiple pubes get stuck inside the reactive lubricant. Outside of this "clump" reacts to the chemical, coating the remainder with an inert substance that protects it from the corrosive properties of the liquid. Kind of the same reason it's difficult to completely dissolve a human body.

I mean, this is incredibly generous of Faye, but if her most frequent customer is essentially getting free service that does explain a lot of her financial troubles. Faye might not have the heart for this business. A lot of doctors in the American Healthcare system say it can be pretty soulcrushing, charging the way they do for such an essential service.

Well, on one hand I think it's basically only May that gets the at-cost discounts, for a number of reasons. But on the other hand, the sheer decrepitude of her body makes her in frequent need of repair. And just imagine how falling apart she'd be by now if those near-free services were unavailable. Basically indirectly enforcing long-term poverty, which I'm guessing is a comment on the state of things in the real world.
