Not sure if I want to hear Melon singing, but who am I to disagree?

jimfromtx

Come on Melon, sing with me. "Sweet dreams are made of this..."

Dancing on the Edge of Sanity

As Yay themselves said the other day, they have a broad spectrum of abilities.

awgiedawgie

You have to wonder?

awgiedawgie

considering where it left off, and that there was no bread, one wonders what Roko might really be contemplating as "the good part" ...

Joe

I agree that Yay won't do any active intrusions into someone's mind like that (unless you really deserve it, like a certain bot did). They will blatantly poke around in the real world until they get results, though. Because they're busybodies and nosy.

Noise

For those speculating about whether Yay is dodging the question here, it's worth remembering what precisely Yay's feelings are on the subject. Not only do they have a moral objection to tampering in people's minds, that I believe to be quite sincere. I genuinely think it is probably their most sincerely held moral belief, and when we find out the circumstances of how they became a hive mind, it will probably go a long way to explain why they believe so strongly in the sanctity of the mind. More importantly though, they've stated that going into people's minds is very intimate. So intimate in fact, that they could never be friends with Bubbles, after having peered into her mind for only a moment, and only through a software that rendered the contents of her mind as a fairly nondescript empty office room. They seem to value their friendship with Roko quite deeply, so I don't think they would compromise this friendship by diving into her dreams like that, playing with her deepest insecurities, and then enacting sloppy makeouts. That would be so many magnitudes of intimacy greater than what they did to Bubbles, which was enough to destroy all possibilities of future friendhsip. This, again, I believe is sincere. I don't think Yay was lying when they explained all that stuff about how intimate mind to mind interfacing is for them. It's a big enough thing that to question it I think is to question the validity of every interaction we've ever had with them. Ie, if they lied about that, were they ever even serious about being friends with Roko in the first place?

Mitchell Sealy

Oh my GOD I want "Little Lemo(n)'s Adventures in Slumberland" now.

Eric Burns-White

Corollary: dreams do not actually have good parts

Nathaniel Tagg

Yep, it definitely ended right before the good part.

jimfromtx

Wait, Roku went to Disneyland?

Chris Gallaty

I always wake up before I get to the good part of a dream - it's really annoying %-)

Mark

Hair down! Yes!!

MELON IS A NAMEK! I HOPE SHE MASENKOSAPPOS A RIVAL!

Ami

Now hug! Test out that new connectivness.

Thisguy

How much is the pay rate for lying in a basement covered in vermin?

Captain Button

Not true. 1. It depends on the update. If the update only makes changes to files which are not in use for program(s) not currently running, I'm not aware of any OS that would require a reboot for that update. (I do recall having worked with an OS where the vendor would still put a reboot instruction in their update package, but it was a script that one could edit and remove that instruction and it would work fine.) 2. It depends on the OS. Unix systems allow patches to in use files, so long as they're made with atomic update methods (apply the update to a temporary copy and then rename it into place). You then need to restart the process(es) to have them actually use the updated code, but you don't need to reboot unless it was a patch to the kernel or something that won't restart (traditional init, for example.) 3. It may depend on OS settings or modules. There's a Linux kernel module that lets one restart the kernel without rebooting. With that module in place, and using an init that can restart itself without losing its mind (there's at least two of these that exist), you basically never need to reboot.

Some Ed

Roko is fine!

aw, Melon <3

Bagge

I assume it's just background smugness.

Bagge

"Little Nemo"? Really? I'm thinking a-Dora-ble.

BobC

I mean, she SAID she hadn't gotten to the really good part.

Rob Vary

I noticed that Yay didn't _actually_ deny doing anything...

Andrew Mitchell

You must reboot to install updates.

Ted Van Roekel

She's such a pervert.

Roko's wavy hair in panel 5. <3

Does a gestalt personality sleep and dream in shifts? If so, what do the ones who are awake think about the dreams of the one who's asleep?

Sleepy John

aww melon

Giant Speck

Fart Captor

I'm surprised there wasn't more bread tbh

Alcaria Swain

I love the picture of Roko on the wall in pigtails.

Oof. Poor Melon. Damnit Jeph, nice job sticking a knife in our ribs while being happy for Roko.

Jeremy

Ouch. I used to put a LOT of effort into lucid dreaming before deciding it was too much effort. But it *has* let me jump out of some of my nightmares, so... ended up proving worthwhile. Really just meant being obsessed with it for a while, taking notes, and... well, you already sleep daily, so, practice is going to happen anyway. Also, I have sleep apnea, and now I wake up from nightmare to find I fell asleep with the mask off, so like, I'm actually unable to breathe and that's making its way into the dream. So, like, there's maybe hope for things to be less shitty, with some hoops to jump through. Good luck stabbing that demon.

Ardent Slacker

Melon, you can subscribe to "Just the Good Parts" from your android dream provider. It's only an extra $9.99/month.

drone r0m-3

Nah.... I don't think Yay is lying.

I'd say it's the difference between "to" and "in".

Devin Gates

wavy hair roko... WAVY HAIR ROKO...

Cass Redgrave

I feel like Melon right now. I have nightmares so frequently that whenever a good dream pops up it is a pleasant surprise. The other night I dreamed that 1990's era Bruce Willis was trapped in an oven and in order to escape he had to force the door open with brute strength, crushing and severing off both of his arms at the elbow. He escaped but the next five minutes of the dream were just him staring at his mangled arms screaming "MY ARMMMMMS!" as I watched in graphic detail. So yeah, dreams are cool, kids!

Samantha Yeaman

I also wouldn't call having toast launched at my butt good, but same :D

Devin Gates

Love Yay in panel 4.

Matt Grayson

Yay didn't say no.

Adam Friedlander

Uh Melon...do we need to talk? Also, Yay has QI capabilities?!

Joel Bateman

"Good part" She's one of us then.

R L

Melon, yes

Bailey Tighe

Not sure I'd call watching me making out with myself "the good part" but hey, you do you Roko :-).
