Same, To Be Honest

Comments

My Husband-Person has become super concerned for Roko. (It's quite adorable.) I had to promise him you don't do overly horrific things to the QC crowd. ;-)

Beth A. Kaplan

Damn, now you've got me thinking about real estate laws in QC. Are there AI-exclusive spaces that don't require kitchens, or is it considered discriminatory not to build apartments with amenities that accommodate both human and AI? Do AI resent all this space that's tailored to human needs over their own? Are there pinterest boards dedicated to making over unnecessary kitchens and bathrooms?

Ellorgast

I love that Melon is just clutched onto Roko for all four panels.

Elliot is the kind of friend Roko needs right now.

This comic is more children friendly than some of the comic books I've seen in the possession of a child. So exactly what definition of children's comic book are you looking for? I mean, I know Hellboy isn't quite as bad as his name might suggest, but it's still disconcerting to see a little kid who's apparently younger than I was when I first said Hell walking around reading his comics... and, yes, I did say that word before I turned 16, but thanks for having a good opinion of me.

Some Ed

If Roko went back to working in the police, and Melon followed her there, they could even be the "good cop, dadaist cop" duo every police team need.

Well it does run in Melon's family. Lemon was one of her sisters. I'm surprised we haven't seen her pop back in.

Jim Feldman

About lying to one'sself, I guess. Though all introverts know the pain of being fully equipped to entertain friends but either having none or not quite daring to ask the ones you have. I guess that depends in how big an introvert Jeph is.

Churchill (formerly TeaBear)

It does. It is hard to feel bad about being lost when there is someone right there twice as lost, not caring about being lost themselves, and caring that you feel bad.

It works! We have seen Roko snap out of her own problems at least two times to deal with or discuss Melon's weirdness.

Bagge

Might just be from the pub. Sometimes they need a shoulder to block the way, sometimes a shoulder to cry on.

Bagge

Elliot and Melon would make a good counseling team: good therapist, Dadaist therapist.

Melon is so cute and so adorable and so sweet and it melts my heart and I want her to be my little sister!

Thomas Gymer

No. Do not bring back Clippy! Microsoft killed him off for a reason!

Miyaa

Cooking a kitchen drawers' worth of paper clips for human guests

Dancing on the Edge of Sanity

Elliot's hands guiding Roko's as she slices vegetables.

Dean Reilly

SQUEEZE THE SAD RIGHT OUT OF HER MELON

Fart Captor

Is anyone else wondering which part Jeph is saying "Same, to be honest" about? Is it the part about lying to oneself about having human guests and cooking for them, or the part about kitchen drawers full of paperclips?

Dev

I like that game more than I should

Bagge

It's ten times the number of papers you need clipping. See. Easy

Bagge

Elliot has been a support person for someone before. (Or has gone through needing some support.) It would be interesting to find out what jobs he's had before, and whether 'baker' is an aspiration or a holding pattern.

Am Queue

But who gets to decide how many that is? Is it not a matter of personal expression? How can someone presume to dictate such a thing?

awgiedawgie

Probably because they assume if there isn't one you'll cook with a charcoal grill and either set the place on fire or kill yourself with carbon monoxide.

Captain Button

Melon lil'-sissing Roko is just beautiful

Bagge

You can, in fact, have too many paperclips.

Bagge

Murakami reference?

And the zoning laws for apartments have not been updated to take into account people who don't eat and do not have to cook. In real-life Massachusetts, we found out you can't legally occupy an apartment that has no stove.

Paperclips? oh god itโ€™s happening http://www.decisionproblem.com/paperclips/

Magic Chopstick Games

Believe it or not, I have actually met a couple people who are quite like Melon. No, they don't have a job where they are covered in vermin, and they don't make baking soda volcanoes in their mouths, but other than that...

awgiedawgie

Melon's unrelenting tight hug is a mood

Fart Captor

How can a comic about AIs be so touching? Jeph is a great writer!

Andy Sleeper

Hay she had a human guest that lie was a.... lie

Kyle Major

You know, back in the day, Yelling Bird would intrude on a moment like this. Sigh.

BobC

The replacement bumper on my car is better than the original, so it kinda figures. Edit: And before you ask, my rear bumper was taken out by an EV driver who forgot he wasn't in "single pedal mode" anymore. People can get stupid when you give them automation then remove it.

BobC

And I was right about the reason Roko has kitchen utensils. Once in a while I get lucky.

awgiedawgie

Coming soon from Melon Productions: Clippy-ana Jones and the Coffee of Doom

Summer Sudbrink

I'll sometimes buy children's comics. "I should have some children's comics in my collection" I tell myself. "What if one day I have some nephew or something that wants to read my comics?" I dunno. Maybe one of these days...

Mitchell Sealy

I feel like a "two kinds of people" comment would usually go here, but let's be honest. Nobody is quite like Melon.

Dylan T

This is perfect, and I love them.

Katrina Urmson

Don't forget the condiment drawer!

Mordaeus

c:

Nicholas Lopez

She and Bert would get along great. Wonder how she feels about pigeons?

Sleepy John

I have a culinary degree and I don't even cook for myself!

Grace Kieser

I KNEW IT, Melon is a paper clip maximizer!! Humanity is DOOMED!!!

Chris Gallaty

In Elliot, I see the man I once was and aspire (with therapy) to be again. May he have better life experiences than I.

Ted Van Roekel

Please let Roko and Elliot use those cooking utensils

Alcaria Swain

I often think of having human guests over and cooking for them, but I don't do it either.

Chris Heg

Kitchen drawers just naturally collect utensils. Like how nature abhors a vacuum.

Joseph Houk

roku and melon.... mmm

allanfranta

Melon continues to have a fine looking.... bumper

Joshua Thomas

I mean, the melon baller did live up to its name.

ERRORCODE616

I was wondering why Roko owned a vegetable peeler. and a melon baller.

LH

Elliot is a good man.

Bel

The urge is real.

J.M. Hall

this is easily the cutest comic in the history of qc
