After some more research it looks like the security check thing has something to do with Cloudflare. One article I found suggested it could be adware or malicious ads. Several scans show no signs of infection on my system which means it's probably some sort of ad redirect that's bypassing my adblocker and NoScript. I'll try contacting Amazon about the issue.

Patreon isn't displaying images for me on either Firefox or Chrome and I keep getting these 'security checks' that suggest getting an add-on that hasn't been updated in over a year. I tried going to the Patreon support page but got blocked by a security check that won't go away no matter how many times I click the captcha. I even turned off my adblocker on both browsers. I'll try again later but it's awfully weird. I also got a similar security check page on pcpartpicker but only those two so far. Pretty confident it's server side at this point.

Nattering on endlessly, helplessly: I wonder if Bubbles and Faye could re-build Roko's old body from the wreckage, possibly by using parts from the new one. Roko might prefer feeling like a beat-up version of herself to feeling like someone different.

Speculation: Bubbles knew about Spookybot. Station didn't. Station is commercial AI. Bubbles was military AI. Tenuously supported conclusion: Spookybot is escaped or abandoned military AI. Stacking speculation upon speculation: Why on earth would Spookybot want to be friends with sweet, goofy, confused Roku of all people? Because Roku is ex-cop, and that is as close as they are going to get to ex-military now that Bubbles is rendered gross by excessive intimacy. For some reason Spookybot feels drawn to ex-service robots. A mere spiderweb of guesswork, I know. It serves to frame the question of why Spookybot would be interested in Roku, though.

If their confidence and power are not aquired through long hard work, but innate, then they can have really different perception of these qualities, so they wouldn't project the typical "powerful person" image. They sure like to act that way, but it doesn't look like core aspect of being Spookybot. Love of dogs seems much more crucial to their personality. Not to speak about the whole "AI/human" difference. Clinton would hyperventilate and pass out if he is given a chance to study Spookybot more closely. ...and it seems I've just found my OTP.

I'm kinda thinking Spookybot will subtly manipulate things so that Roko undergoes a series of... events? exercises? stuff-that-happens? which, in the end, result in her developing the level of integration she needs. I'd like to think that would eventually lead her to a new career, helping newly-embodied AIs through their own integration issues. Based on history, for Roko, such events would involve bread and Marten. (Remember Marten? He seems to be a pretty good catalyst for people growing into themselves. He might not take direct action, but his mere presence seems to help the necessary reactions occur.)

This just confirms to me that people who write off Spookybot as "evil" or "a troll" are just not paying close attention. I mean, they MIGHT be. But I think panel 3 gives a more interesting and likely description of what they are.
