Is it time for a MAKEOVER! TOTAL BODY LEVEL! XD

MercuryBuddha

Not to mention a somewhat cavalier attitude to falling down. BTW, I'm also an Aussie, so I know what a ute is :-)

Mark

I think that this point they can only offer moral support.

Kuragari

I like Roko so much. I'm really sad but I hope Faye and Bubbles can do something.

Virgel Dragalion

I think given the level of sophistication it takes to make all that happen at the right time, spookybot might be searching for more inductees of some kind.

Mooster

Oh Roko, that last expression breaks my heart ❤️

JD

Which makes you wonder... Both Bubbles and Claire have talked a lot about their dysphorias, even once with each other. Claire found her solution, Bubbles lives with hers and has found some peace in the acceptance of others. Jeph's AI minds have a kernel of humanity's messiness, so how will those two help Roko through this?

Elf Sternberg

"Misdelivered" eh? Somebody needs to check Corpse Witch's Amazon purchase history. Also, how do you slip on a crate?

Summer Sudbrink

*Jerkcity strangle noises*

TMN

Of course not. Gold isn't fissionable.

Gary Walker

Crushbot weighs “several” tons? I.e. 1000-3000 kg. But his volume looks to be about 4x a standard human. A human occupies about 0.08 of a cubic metre, so Crushbot's volume would be about 0.3 of a cubic metre, and his density could be 2000/0.3 or 6666 kg/ m3. What the hell has he got, a heart of gold? <a href="http://ambrsoft.com/CalcPhysics/Density/Table_2.htm" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">http://ambrsoft.com/CalcPhysics/Density/Table_2.htm</a>

Holly Nelson

Yeah, assuming that the statement "Crushbot weighs several tonnes" is accurate, he would be between 2-5 tonnes. That's the weight of a car or ute (pick up truck for non-Australians). Not sure what the legalities are for something the weight of a car to be walking around on pavements, whether it is legally considered a person or not.

Thisguy

This would be a great time for a spooky visitor.

Chris Hull

Yet ...

Peter Jensen

I really love Roko's Bostonian accent

Valraven

I should have known all this talk about bodily integration and how amazing Roko's feeling for her body is, would be followed by "...and it would be a shame if something would happen to it, wouldn't it?"

Bagge

I shall be interested in watching this arc. I like Roko, and have for some time, and this is a good way (albeit painful!) to stretch her character and give her some dimension. (Er, 2d at this point, I suppose.)

I'm not an expert by any means, but a reoccuring issue with certain kinds of ai in our world is that they take advantage of incredibly small nuances in implementation; I remember a paper about genetic algorithms on FPGAs where the "evolved" agent would take advantage of slight manufacturing deviations in individual transistors and electrical noise in the power supplies. If you scale that up to a sapient system that's spent it's entire existence in specific hardware, instead of spawning in a simulated vr body or a virtual machine on a server...Roko could be in for some very painful dysphoria.

Crushbot could have fallen on a human, and we don't have backup memories or easily replaceable bodies.

Mark

Oof. Poor Roko. It’s funny how something that started as a gag about a robot being squeamish can turn into a gut-punch of a story arc.

William Cole

"In the meantime, we have an AI compatible toaster we can...why are you breathing heavily?"

A sheep

not to mention the bread.

jeff fearnow

It’s not the lack of a body that’s the problem, as indicated last page, insurance will be able to cover a replacement body. The problem is that it was HER body. Roko was very integrated with her body. Not all AI’s are as happy to body hop or shop around as the ones we’ve seen.

Thisguy

Oh no no no. My poor baby. :’(

Mandy Hoskins

and when she is restored to function visit the shop and view her ex-body

Tim Williams

Oh Roko, I think my heart just broke a little. I am not overly attached to these characters, not at all *blinks back tears* this is going to be devastating for her.

Denise Webber

So.. they built the functional AnthroPC body and just waited for the AI to appear?

Brian

I'm calling the police on you

Ami

Why do I get the feeling Roko is one of those rare AIs that was first brought to sentience in her body and not in VR like normal, and actually prefers to stay offline while her body is being worked on? It would explain the extreme connection she has to her physical form...

Czarzhan

Damn all this dust, getting all up in my eyes.

Ian Wolfe

I hope there's some kind of hospital room and someone brings her a bouquet of fresh baked bread.

Kuragari

Whatever you do, don't give this new chassis a heatsink

Brian

It sounds like it took her a long time to really settle into her old body, but she's nigh immortal, and will have all the time in the world to achieve the same level of integration with her new body. It's just gonna be a rough period of time until she gets there. The whole world will feel muted to her. She won't have nearly the same capacity for sensation. I can't even imagine how that impacts your whole mental state.

Mitchell Sealy

Poor Roko, I hope she gets a nice new boahdy she likes.

Kuragari

The writing was on the cement

ysth

Well, she and Faye did destroy that bed their first time together...

Grace Kieser

Because he clearly wanted to give Roko a redesign but needed an excuse

JD

That's a huge downgrade for her. Besides, they said Crushbot has insurance, so they'll pay for a new chassis for her.

JD

But wait... Winslow's old chassis is still around, could Roko use that?

Andy Sleeper

So upgrade Pintsize to full humanoid and put Roko in Pintsize's chassis, problem solved

Rich Holmes

Will Roko suffer from Phantom Body Syndrome?

Captain Button

I'm interested to see how May does, given her experience of dissatisfaction with her assigned chassis.

Danya Michael

Wow. Knew Bubbles was strong, but, "Crushbot weighs several tons. Bubbles was able to lift him off of you....". Daaaaaang!

Ian McDonald

Maybe they can build her a Bread Golem body in the hidden basement of The Secret Bakery?

Captain Button

Well, she is military grade.

VC

Roko has been described as being unusually integrated with her body. This will be tough.

Danya Michael

Hunh. Potential body dysmorphia and disability issues here, displaced into robots for an exterior perspective. Robots like Momo, who change bodies happily, will not understand. Momo will immediately set out to understand. Others may not.

That’d be like living in Deadpool’s head. Sounds awesome and terrible.

VC

With a body like that, Crushbot might have similar difficulty like an upside beetle but has a way to do it unassisted. It’s just faster having a very concerned military chaisied AI help.

VC

yes, Jeph, you glorious, clever, insane bastard, you!!

Joe

they just had a conversation about how integrated her personality was with her body ...

Joe

Weighing as much as Crushbot does, I wonder whether Crushbot would even have been able to get up unassisted. And I guess Bubbles never has trouble changing tyres...

Dean Reilly

This is a fascinating topic to discuss... How much are AIs bonded to their bodies and what psychological grieving process do they experience when their body is destroyed.

Erin Moriarty

Maybe Clinton visiting for moral support? With bread?

Elf Sternberg

Oh jesus, this is certainly a way to kick off the new year

I'm kind of impressed by the phrase, "Bubbles was able to lift Crushbot off of you."

Elf Sternberg

Maybe she can co-habit with Melon, like a conscience!

Andrew

We can't rebuild her? We don't have the technology?

Captain Button

Take my upvote and just go.

R L

No, not a sad Roko :c

Nicholas Lopez

Wow. Roko is... crushed to hear this.

Andrea Andrew

Theory: Roko might be in the care of Bubbles &amp; Faye for the near future?

R L

The previous comic explicitly stated that he has "VERY robust insurance".

Buck Caldwell

Uffda!

Jerry K. Sweeney

Owch. I hope Crushbot has the really good insurance.

Emma Humphries

THIS IS NOT HOW I WANTED THE NEW YEAR TO START! Dammit Willi... Wait, wrong comic...

Grace Kieser

Jeph you bastard

Matthew Harris

JEPH WHY TAE FUCK

What a dark way to start the new year &gt;_&gt;

Dan Orlowitz

oh no

Brian
