I suspect that had at least the system diag and external input checks had been allowed, it would have alerted her to her current lack of a body. So yeah, kind of like an anesthetic. You really don't want a patient waking up and realizing that they have no arms or legs, without having a chance to brace them for it.

On system destruction, the AI boots into this space, overriding the (now nonfunctioning) peripherals (eyes, 'frontal cortex thought', etc). Here they can come to terms with their mishap perhaps, and choose what their next step might be. Or if they want to just 'float on', this virtual space is a fine equivalent to AI Heaven. There. Her mind seems intact, so her physical brain/AI drive is most likely undamaged. Her body is almost certainly a total loss, and her brain probably isn't still attached to it or anywhere near it. I think the overrides might be a sort of repression reflex to prevent psychological trauma, or perhaps something being applied as a sort of anaesthetic.

At least her personality is intact! The shock may make her hair turn white though...

The truly messed up part of all of this? Roko just quit her job which very likely had the AI equivalent of full medical that had to include chassis repair up to full replacement due to the nature of her being a cop. :(

Jeph has revealed in past strips that the HDs that store the core programming and personality are incredibly tough. It's likely their "black boxes" if you will would be able to survive nearly any accident. So it's really unlikely that she's "Dead" dead. Just PARTLY dead.

I would argue the other way round. The likely pulled what would be they equivalent to Roko's black box and hooked that up outside of her body to assess if there was any damage to *that* unit and her core construct. If her chassis is that far gone that basic core function is down (vs just missing limb function, etc) It's rather bad. Makes you wonder if (and why not, if not) there is such a thing as insurance for AI's. You would think it would have come up and Faye and Bubbles would have talked about it. I imagine AI coverage would be like auto, where you can get limited liability all the way up to full coverage.

Oh dear, Roko's 'very high level of body integration' is not going to work in her favour here. Also, Lemon might be a licensed AI therapist but I don't know yet that they're a very good one. Also also, I suppose that Jeph's comment that the lubricant that Roko sprayed into her eyes to simulate crying smelt 'lemony' is coincidence...
