Well, an AI brain probably builds links just like a human brain, just at a vastly accelerated speed. So when "bread" pics was fed into her network for teaching, an incorrect divide-by-zero or NaN occurred and linked bread to her pleasure center.

Maybe military AI sensors operate differently, or have deliberately reduced effectiveness so that you can continue to function as a combatant when say, your arm is blown off, or you’re on fire.

It's also a plot point in Blindsight, which I know has inspired some comics in the past. There's a really cool way you can quickly experience how the brain tricks you. Put your phone on selfie mode and look around. Notice your eyes moving? Most likely you'll see it, as processing for display takes time and you start seeing stuff again before the image is ready. Now try doing the same thing in a mirror. You will *not* see your own eyes move, because a mirror is effectively instant and you're blind while your eyes move. What you "see" is a fabrication where your eyes are always perfectly still.

Bubbles had a human team, though, right? I would expect her olfactory sensors to be hyper-tuned to military-grade gas attacks.

If only that actually explained why the smell of bread causes her to feel aroused.

So basically Roko's brain does for physical sensations what the human brain does for visual inputs: a heavily augmented patchwork of best guesses.

I would expect Bubbles to have some top-notch visual and auditory sensors, but other senses are probably off-the-shelf. (And that's assuming that some of the tech wasn't sensitive and got removed when she left the service.)

A saccade is a quick, simultaneous movement of both eyes between two or more phases of fixation in the same direction. In contrast, in smooth pursuit movements, the eyes move smoothly instead of in jumps. Wikipedia

Or it could be like any other military procurement project - way overpriced, no better than COTS, painted olive green...

Maybe it's precisely too good. Getting an appropriately incomplete picture of the world means your brain fills in gaps. That's going to have an impact on how you relate to those sensations on a personal level.

It's probably not about how good the sensors are but how much the AI feels them as part of their being rather than just being input they can choose to pay attention to.

I would have thought Bubbles had the best sensor array the military could buy.
