If the comic is still essentially set in Northampton, which is Massachusetts, then in the world outside our window marijuana is legal there, much less QC. Mass legalized recreational marijuana for consumption in one's home, and literally as of yesterday there are legal dispensaries for it. Marijuana is still considered a controlled substance on the Federal level, but barring interstate transport that's not likely to be an issue. And not only wouldn't this use be on her 'record' (as Jeph already said), under HIPAA it would be illegal for the hospital to disclose the reason for her hospitalization. Also? Tai has raves *in the library* and hasn't been fired. I seriously doubt 'grad student uses weed this one time' will be an issue with Claire finding work. Especially since in *our* world 'grad student uses weed this one time' isn't really an issue for these purposes.

In the US, hospitals do not have to report you for drug use unless you are a danger to yourself or others, or you have the drugs on you at the time. However, it is also possible that in the universe of QC, marijuana is legal. That would explain why THC vape juice is available. In that case, there is no risk aside from social judgement.

I did want a glimpse into Clairemother's character, and here it appears to be. Hypothesis: every so often she just goes for it. That got her a bad husband, good, if slightly shocky, children, and a cute young boyfriend. Let's see how it works out this time.

I'm starting to think that I was too optimistic when I thought that Marten would be wheeling Claire home in a wheelbarrow. This may yet turn into a hospital visit and... well, that could really screw up her chances with getting sinecure with a 'respectable' library.
