Self Actualization

I knew about the partnership with the bakery, where Officer Basilisk keeps buying her bread. What I don't think I've ever seen before is the counter display for the baked goods.

Brad Knowles

I think they have a partnership with a bakery. Maybe the secret bakery, don't remember. I think it was after a break up when one of the characters was looking for a different place to hang and discovered a bakery.

Gregory Norris

I wasn’t ready for the level to this comic.

Puppymaster

So, wait -- now Coffee of Doom has a counter display with baked goods?!? When did that happen?!?

Brad Knowles

I don't think it's that simple, or Winslow wouldn't have balked at leading the therapy group. Also, Bubbles' memory wipe wouldn't be considered taboo if they can just download new stuff. I think they still need to learn just like we do

Grace Kieser

Well, we know from Momo there were quite a lot of old fashioned learning involved (Although she DID download the library catalog... including the erotica section) If nothing else, learning to navigate the social fabric of a new workplace is a work in itself.

Bagge

As long as she's productive, and doesn't just loaf around.

Andrew Diseker

"Last-reel surprise"... You're giving away your age a little there.

awgiedawgie

May in panel 2 and 3 is just the best. Keeps getting funnier the more I look at it.

Somebody Else

She also has the gift of perspective. Both are excellent problem-solving skills. Now if she could just learn a bit of tact...

Jeffrey Nonken

May has a gift of getting directly to the core of an issue. And then kicking it in the nuts.

Jeffrey Nonken

I am suddenly very envious. I bet an AI switching careers could be as simple as downloading new software and they're set to go, but I would love if Jeph showed us Roko exploring AI education and career training. :)

Laura-Kathleen Redman

AI Cops Are Bakers

Smazzie

Those who become a rule-bending maverick who go around bringing justice by any and all means necessary, without fear or favour and telling the bureaucrats at city hall that, if they don't like their methods, they can sit on it and spin until they feel better? In Northampton in 2018 there are no more trials, no more lawyers and no more juries. They have become obsolete. One woman is The Law. JUDGE ROKO - Coming 2019.

Ben Russell-Gough

2 good kinds of cops you know, ones who quit and, uh

When you roll 20 on Persuasion and waste it on a silly random encounter at the inn

Bagge

the Pygmalion of bread (?)

Jaime Suzuki

Lots of Europeans apparently follow Jeph (o:

Lars Gottlieb

Or a baker

Matthew Harris

yay, finally i can identify with Roko in any way or be fond of her as a character!

Anna Phylaxis

May’s new career path as a motivational speaker reveals itself

JD

And so began Roko's new career as a baking and fetish blogger.

Thomas Boys

It's these occasional bouts of unbridled positivity that keep me reading QC every day.

Lene

Last panel would make a neat T-shirt.

Rob McBobson

middle of the night is when I ponder most of life's questions

Dan Curtis

I think that Roko was about 99% of the way to that decision anyway May. You just made her think about the look on her boss's face when she quits. So what just happened is that you inadvertently encouraged her to think of the bright side of her decision. The girl doesn't know it, but she's a lot like Pintsize! She just isn't conscious of what a good counsellor she can be! You know, there could be a last-reel surprise. Maybe, on her way to quit, Roko saves someone's life or (accidentally) busts a major perp and rediscovers her joy in her work. Or maybe something weirder like SpookyBot suddenly hiring her as their agent on the inside in the Massachusetts State Police.

Ben Russell-Gough

I have this theory that Jimbo the pulp speculative fiction writer is just Jim the baker when he's drunk. That or they're half-brothers.

Diptych

All Cops Are Becoming knitting supplies retailers

Diptych

Aren't AIs grown in this universe? If that's the case, nothing is reprogrammable for them.

Nicolas Dao-Phan

Bake bread?! L-lewd!

Nematrec

And what are we doing at 1:00 am worrying about this stuff?

Philip D Jones

Actually- that would be true for humans too. There's abbreviated programs for law enforcement seeking an MSW depending on work experience. You still have to get your practicum hours, and supervised hours for licensure but its a thing.

Gigglebyte

Also, for an AI is sexual orientation reprogramable?

Philip D Jones

If a social worker needs an MSW degree, can that be accomplished for an AI with a few minutes of reprogramming? She may need supervised practicum, but surely re-education can be abbreviated.

Philip D Jones

Man don't be a social worker Basalisk... We still have to work with cops and I dunno that I can tell you that there's any less beating your head against a brick wall of bureaucracy

Gigglebyte

Hope the Secret Bakery is hiring.

Brent Catherman

Maybe Roko can be a Parole Officer and help ex-cons who are being discriminated against. Or she can just go bake bread.

Am Queue

Roko loco?

BobC

I'm not sure that will earn May any parole points.

Bagge

Can't wait for Jeph to join the #AbolishPolice movement :D

Ilana

Sometimes what you need in life is just someone to tell you what it is you actually want to do, because until they do you might not realise that's what you want.

Chris Crowther

I think May was really shocked by the response to her advice. I mean REALLY shocked. Dale, meanwhile, well... Smart man. Hiding behind the counter was wise.

Social workers also have to have masters degrees

Grace Kieser

Good for her! People should like their jobs.

Ian Wolfe

... neat

Stoodmuffin

Um

Onedavewreckingcrew

What

Miyaa

Welp, now I need a neck brace because I got whiplash from that turnaround!

Grace Kieser

YES. I am so shipping Roko and May now. Like superhard, like I never knew I needed them until now but I SO DO

Dahlia Rose Israel

All cops are bakers?

Emma Humphries

AND THEN, THEY FUCKED.

Paul Grodt

Dale. That is all.

Chuck Dee

Social workers engage with a lot of the same elements of society as police officers, but they're not allowed to gun down anybody who looks at them funny. It's kind of like Hard Mode Police Work.

Mitchell Sealy

That's just about the BEST in a while. Made me laugh out loud.

David Hernandez

Bwahahahaha

Einstein said figure out what you like to do, and then figure out how to make money doing it.

awgiedawgie

Now, if more cops would follow suit...

Hooray!

Brian

Woooooah!!!

Katrina Urmson

Well it's not like we saw more tan a couple of pages of her doing cop things.

Paul Rendell

That last panel encapsulates two of my most common emotional states.

Steve DeGroof

Daaaaaang.

Joseph Houk

Dang!

Matt Grayson

She should totes be a baker. She could apprentice with Jim. Is that his name? Jim?

Jackson Bockus

Holy shit, is she really gonna go work at the Secret Bakery?

Ehren Kluge
