Hey, don't knock banks - giving trans people semi-hard ID for nn years now... it's amazing how many institutions are like "We don't acknowledge your change of name/title... oh, it's on your bank statement? Well in that case..."

Ally Bank has no physical location and it's awesome.

William Burns

I've never had a bank that doesn't have a physical location. You almost always have to go to one to open the account in the first plave, even if younever set foot inside afterwards.

Dolan

True about librarian stuff and Claire about materials things. Makes sense. And I always saw QC as being set in an alternate universe where the singularity already happened. There's a lot of futuristic stuff and they are more advance in a lot of things. So when I say futur I don't talk about our futur. But they are more advance than us in technologies, so it's not that crazy to think they have more digitized stuff like Banks.

mooviies

Heh. About half of our library disappears if the internet connection goes down, including the catalog that serves as a guide to the other half.

Claire is in the process of finishing school to be a LIBRARIAN. I think that says something about her interest in the physical, not the abstract.

Timothy Mann

QC isn't future, just different

ysth

It's specifically a savings account he didn't have

ysth

My bank doesn't even have physical locations. I do everything online and it's the present. So I find it weird that in the futur where they have AI, it's not done online.

"I want to transfer this in-trust account to my now-adult daughter" (in town today and standing right here, who banks with the same bank). "Wait while I get someone who knows how do to that". Wait, wait". "Hi, I'm X. How can I help you?". Reiterate, blah blah. "Oh. Wait while I find someone who actually knows how to do that". Wait, wait, wait,wait..". Hi, I'm Y. How can I help?" Blah, blah, blah, fill out forms, wait, wait, fill out form, wait, wait .. "OK, now you have a brokerage account. But you can't actually transfer the funds for at least several hours. You can do that later over the phone, though." "Why's this taken so long ? (don't you guys know what you're doing). I opened the account in this very building" "Oh, we transferred that function to head office a few years ago. This is just a regular branch now (for people who can't work an ATM machine). Fume, fume.

Andrew Daviel

The good news is, Marten, that a) chances are you won't have to wait very long and b) the process is usually relatively painless. Tedious, yes.

Jeffrey Nonken

I missed it until you said. Took me a minute to find.

Jeffrey Nonken

Read a few strips into that arc; I miss Marten's band.

Everett Bradshaw

Marten _used_ to have a bank account- <a href="https://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=2418" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=2418</a>

Mark

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who saw that! :D ♥

Nicki Faulk

I forget that it's possible to have an income without a bank account in the states. I had a savings account within weeks of being Born ..

Lars Gottlieb

Loving the Agents of Shield ref

Lars Gottlieb

Yeah, one person in the relationship having to adult the other can very easily be problematic. Marten has some growth do do, methinks

Bagge

Martens mom is not really hot on that whole adulting thing either. Martens dad looks like he have tried and failed one time too many, if his reaction to the wedding travel tickets is any judge

Bagge

My guess would be a one-piece. It could even be a leotard that just <i>looks like</i> it has a belt.

awgiedawgie

I've got the feeling that the pleading and whining from Marten was really, really pathetic as she pushed him through the door to the bank, so Claire's in a "I ain't takin' no more nonsense" mood!

Ben Russell-Gough

Yeah, that's what sets up panel 4 so beautifully!

Ben Russell-Gough

No, Marten; I'm afraid that doing adult stuff doesn't go away, no matter how much you wish it would!

Ben Russell-Gough

Seriously Marten? My parents helped me set up a bank account as soon as I graduated high school.

Brent Catherman

I can see that Claire is going to be an "International Women's Day"-level pain in the ass haha

MikeT

Banks aren't even that great! CREDIT UNION, YOU TWO

Minzoku Bokumetsu

You're right, I think. But just to play devil's advocate, some banks I know close your savings account if it hits $0.00. It's possible that's what happened to Marten. Or, and this makes as much sense, Jeph forgot.

Claire is the best thing that's happened to you, Marten.

It's kind of a delicate matter when only one person in a relationship is financially responsible. Intertwining finances is tricky. It can be a test of their commitment to each other.

Chris Heg

Cute Marten and Claire are cute!

Bagge

Banks are so boring . . . until they aren't! Getting that home loan, paying off the home loan, having an emergency fund so you don't have to go into debt when that idiot hits your car - lots of excitement!

Todd Beaubien

Claire is wearing a rather cute outfit. Is it one piece with a belt or separate matching-color top and shorts?

Populuxe

I rather like "Perhaps Computers."

Erin Hartshorn

I would assume they have a shoot-on-sight policy for Pintsize.

09Klr650

He doesn't seem to be loaded with cash or anything. He might survive a 10% pay cut, but it'd probably be a pretty noticeable dip in his quality of life.

Mitchell Sealy

Now I’m wondering what sort of specialty credit unions &amp; community banks that accept Anthro-PCs like Momo &amp; May? Does Pintsize is even permitted to enter a bank?

Miyaa

Come on, Martin. It isn't that hard. You don't even have to budget. All you have to do is pretend you make, say, 10% less than you actually do. You could survive a 10% paycut, couldn't you? You can survive this.

Daryl Sawyer

If you've got the choice, go Credit Union (or genuine Community Bank) every time!

Marc Pengryffyn

I OBJECT! Per comic 2418, Marten already possesses a (sparse, admittedly) savings account.

What's wrong with credit unions? Doesn't Smif have one?

Joseph Houk

That last panel of Claire looking severe and adorable is how she will look at the reference desk. Young men will spend hours thinking of questions to ask her, forget them as soon as they get up close, and blush and stammer like fools.

It's actually a sperm bank

darklion

When you are opening an account you need to be there in person so they can check your ID in person and stuff.

Shawn K. Younkin

Can you not just do that online? Or is the physical presence Claire's way of enforcing action?

Chris Luthe

Haha, I had the opposite problem and dragged HER into the bank. Fun times.

This boy...

Mordaeus

Marten looked so happy and carefree in the third panel. 🙃

Bruce Steinberg

Your mother was a hamster, and your father smelled of elderberries!

Captain Button

Ah, Marten, you're still ahead of where I was at that age. Took me until my mid-30's and the need to get out of an abusive marriage to learn how to budget.

Ted Van Roekel

Full disclosure, she is now a librarian.

Gary Walker

So, about 18 years ago, I married an economics teacher. I was, modulo various differences, Marten. My credit is sooooo good now. :)

Gary Walker

Dis me.

Operation Brownie Pockets is a free game you play in real life

time to learn adulting, Marten

JD

Poor elbow-cactus! Don’t lean on the cactuses, Marten.

Holly Nelson

Ugh. Why does this arc resemble my life so much? Stop reminding me of the things I don't want to deal with, Jeph!

Alex Mullenix

You've perfectly captured the feeling of small bank branches here. The uncomfortable chair and tacky plants. Beautiful.

Tommie Barlow

Took me a while to realize this was a BANK-bank, not a plasma bank...
