Ever since hubby and I started using YNAB (You Need a Budget) software, there has been increasing financial harmony and less stress and fights. But we still love our spreadsheets.

Christ, my ex would get that as a tattoo.

Ted Van Roekel

"Spreadsheets are the key to a harmonious life," should go on a t-shirt! 😍

Using a spreadsheet to figure out a budget in a world that has sentient robots... OMG. Do they not have open source budget software? Gnucash has a lot of issues, but it's at least designed to handle the job of tracking finances... Oh, and I almost forgot to mention, but doing budget stuff when you are not at a crisis point is much less stressful than doing budgetting at a crisis point, and can help you avoid that stressful crisis point...

Some Ed

I also hate Excel files... only because they force me to open EXCEL. GIMME THE RAW CSV PLZ

after reading the reddits talesfromtechsupport and techsupportgore that is a valid way of doing things for a certain value of people

Ariel Rosenfeld

Considering punchbot is a CPA pintsize could be something legal, maybe he is a tenured professor and marten is his research subject

Ariel Rosenfeld

I mean, I don't know anyone who WOULDN'T donate a kidney in exchange for Excel exclusion.

Kevin Hicks

I will only ever use Excel for its intended purpose: Generating code for PLCs and SCADA applications! ... ... what?!?

Peter Jensen

I dread to think HOW Pintsize gets his money. The range of shady enterprises he could do is almost limitless.

Gamebook

Bubbles and Faye must have just come in and overheard the end of that conversation. I find myself not surprised that Bubbles is capable of advanced surgery considering her previous demonstrations of medical knowledge and manual dexterity.

Gamebook

But Pintsize got us Faybles!!!!!!!

Bruce Steinberg

I'm not kidding, I'm actually on the toilet reading this.

Unanimous D

Just use words? It works as well?

Mari San

In a world where pintsize can make enough money to fund his shenanigans its weird that marten has no savings

Ariel Rosenfeld

Oh, Marten.

Maurice Kessler

Excel is life. Yet the funny thing is that I don't use it for budgeting. (Oh wait, yes I do - my bills. Never mind.)

Joseph Houk

Budgets my arse.

Patrick Jackson

once a year, or maybe 6 months, I open the spreadsheet, update the numbers, if there is money left over it goes to cigars and booze.

allanfranta

This comic is 100% funnier because we got our taxes done at Jacques Financial.

Jill Yedwab

Having until recently lived with her mother and been fed nutritious food by her, Claire is unused to the ramen and noodles diet that Marten and Faye occasionally need to rely on. Thus she has yet to learn how to use chopsticks.

Ben Russell-Gough

I like that Claire is using a fork (and a plate) while Martin is using chopsticks...

David Howe

Still, he has managed to offset Claire's anxiety attacks about her employment prospects by triggering her desires to care for and reorganize him. If that was deliberate its a masterstroke, but I think it was an accident due to Marten being Marten...

David Howe

☹️

Holly Nelson

Martin, I get the mood

Stoodmuffin

I just tried to hire a new baby MLS for a clerk job, and was told she would leave after a few years, and that every time the job comes open, we risk losing it. I wound up with someone less capable who will stay till he dies.

Marten set out to assuage Claire's anxious insecurity, and she has instead made him anxious and insecure. Maybe in that universe library clerk really is a job professionals lust for, and she is right. From here it looks like pointless fretting.

This guy knows excel

MikeT

Except it's much more frequent than your report card.

awgiedawgie

Hmm... It looks like Claire is going to force Marten to start 'Adulting - Lesson 1'. Meanwhile, Pintsize needs to stop enabling irresponsible behaviour. It would be a huge thing for him, I know.

Ben Russell-Gough

The anxiety of looking at your bank balance is the adult equivalent of opening up your school grades.

Pintsize knows a guy... Pintsize knows lots of guys. What’s alarming is not how many guys he knows, but the kinds of guys he knows.

awgiedawgie

They both the speak the truth. Spreadsheets are invaluable for keeping track of my budget, but depressing as hell when I realize there isn't much leftover after expenses.

Brent Catherman

That moment when you realize that Marten is figuring out in his 20s what it took you almost twice that to understand.....

Pintsize doesn't know a Kidney guy - he knows an excel guy

Bagge

"Do you save enough for retirement?" "Lol @ retirement" "Do you plan to work for the rest of your life?" "I work in I.T. so basically yes"

Tim Eldred

Looove spreadsheets! Couldn't survive without them.

No, Marten has already made it clear he doesn't want to follow his mom in the family business...

Captain Button

That Claire look in panel 2b is well on point.

Andrew

I know that one! EVE!

Chuck Dee

I read that as orgasms and the story didn't make a bit of sense.

Jamison Town

I got through at least my 20s if not my 30s without a formal budget, despite a complete lack of spreadsheet anxiety. Including a period of only slightly over minimum wage. On payday, pay any critical bills due before next payday, fill car (if any) with gas, buy rice or other staple foods sufficient to last to next payday. Pay non-critical bills, and then you're good. As long as nothing goes wrong. (Of course, I always had health insurance and lived in relatively low-rent areas.)

Captain Button

I like spreadsheets, use them to analyze economic policy, among other things. But, like Brian above, I refuse to budget. I'm just quite careful with my money, and cut back if I find I'm not saving enough. I'm rather generous with others, though, when I can afford to be. But saving is key, however you can manage it.

Chas Simmons

Pintsize is helping!!!

Shawn K. Younkin

I love spreadsheets. I did all my budget on spreadsheets. Well, the only reason I did that was to calm the money anxiety of my SO and prove her with numbers that we, in fact, didn't have any financial problem.

mooviies

(Granted, Claire will have her MLS; libraries *sometimes* pay folks with MLSs actual living wages. The rest of us...not so much.)

Charlotte Grubbs

Iplay a gamethat has been described as "spreadsheets in space"

Kilonum

Oh, Claire, Marten works in a library. He definitely doesn't make enough to start a savings account. Did...did they not teach you this in library school?

Charlotte Grubbs

Shout out to my fellow spreadsheet loving nerds. Also, I love Martin's character but every now and then he's a bit of a man child. I hope Claire and him developed a balance each other out and she doesnt grow out of this hip cute yet kind of aimless guy.

I make spreadsheets for FUN I hate looking at my bank balance more than necessary Budget = "Did income exceed outgo? At all? Okay then."

Minzoku Bokumetsu

I’m an excel wiz and I still refuse to make myself budget like that

Brian

Damn it Pintsize

R L

Man, as a current office drone it has been a long, long time since I so utterly empathized with Marten.

EmDotWilder

Pint size, he said he knew a guy for any bodily fluids you may wish to sell xD

Silly Marten. Spreadsheets are some of the best things ever.

Benzy

I love a good spreadsheet πŸ˜…

Pintsize or Bubbles?
