It's Happened Before

It's Happened Before

But who would win the Veronica/Bubbles show down? Bubbles is adept at psychological warfare too.

Bruce Steinberg

Pretty sure that meant he threw up on her before after seeing one of her injuries.

Gregory Norris

At first I was thinking, "nah, it's gotta be at least a little more dangerous than those", but ... yeah, I think if you stuck your finger in a blender, you'd definitely be worse off. Toaster too, if there is no ground fault circuit interrupter. Of course, all of them are perfectly safe when used in the prescribed manner.

Peter Jensen

And teach your students that the first rule is honesty. Sam was honest with her dad, and is willing to accept the consequences - before he has even said whether there will be any. And in doing so, she has assuaged his anger. When I was in 6th grade, I knew I had missed a couple words on a spelling test, but the teacher had given me a perfect score. So I went up to his desk and told him "sir, I got these two words wrong, but you gave me a perfect score." He said I did indeed get them wrong, and he had missed it. But he rewarded me for my honesty, and let the perfect score stand. I have no idea what words I had missed, but I will forever remember his lesson on the importance of honesty.

I read this when it posted, and just read it again. After 30 years as an engineer, on Monday I'm interviewing to become a high school Engineering teacher. I hope to treat my students just like this. Set aside the initial reaction, focus on the facts, and look at the big picture.

All I can think of is "Power tools? It's a friggin' Dremel! That's like, less dangerous than a blender! Or a toaster!"

Noise

My mental read of AttractiveDad's voice quickly shifted to Hank Hill status as he said "I'm going over there and giving them a piece of my mind, I tell you what--"

illibuster

It's amazing when they grow up. Glad Jim caught it and understood the implications.

Edward Justice

I once crushed a fingnail when I was messing around with my Grandpa's metal laythe as a kid. Very painful and embarrassing as all my Grandma said when was disinfecting it was, "Well that was a stupid thing to do, that why you don't mess with the tools in the barn." Grandpa just chuckled.

You know, I really want to know what 'this time' and 'it's happened before' both mean. Just how badly was Sam hurt and what was she doing?

Ben Russell-Gough

Not that we know of, no.

Ben Russell-Gough

My first thought is this..: Have Jim and Bubbles met?

KassFlak

That's all good, but there's still a possible Veronica Vance fallout. If she decides to protect Sam from Faye (as she promised she'd do) then things could get messy.

Evgeniy Semyonov

It's very, very character-establishing. Sam is pretty much QC's answer to Calvin from 'Calvin and Hobbes'. Additionally, Jeph obviously loves that picture, given that he chose it as the background for most of the strip!

Ben Russell-Gough

At some point, I really hope that Sam begins to understand just how precious she is to Jim and just how deeply he loves her. I'm also wondering when was the last time he saw her cry.

Ben Russell-Gough

She's right handed, so it's unlikely.

Grace Kieser

Damn. I totally missed that! Subtle!

Brad Knowles

I just wanna know if Sam made those other two spray appointments

Dave Cochran

I **love** the body language in this one. It's perfect.

Well done Sam, owning up to your shit is something we all need to learn, it's a pity quite a lot of people don't know how. Nice one Steve.

Denise Webber

Very niiice eyebrow transition in panels 4-5!

Jim is such a good dad.

Mandy Hoskins

Dammit, Jeph! Stop making me feel feels! (Please keep making me feel feels. It's why I'm here.)

Proof positive, Steve IS the Cereal killer!

Situation defused...

Next Sunday: Steve eating Fruit Loops with milk and ice!

Miyaa

I just can’t stop looking at the photo of Sam at the Washington Monument in the background because it’s hilarious.

Will Weaver

Sam, kudos for owning up to your mistake better than most adults twice your age. Jim, kudos for realizing your daughter is being super grown up and owning her mistakes. Jeph, kudos. Just, kudos.

Onedavewreckingcrew

Good job soldier. Head to your room for debriefing.

Nicolas Dao-Phan

Two different times in my childhood I had accidents where I scraped the end of my big toe (once on each foot) and scraped the nail off, leaving the disgusting nail bed exposed. Painful and very vomitous.

Peggy Youell

Very very well done, Jeph. The situation is saved, all the characters grow a bit and all of it is consistent with what we know of them previously. You do great work. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Bob Ellis

That's some great adulting on BOTH of their parts.

Ted Van Roekel

I'm right there with ya, Jim. I mean, just the thought of what her finger looks like just makes me want to... uh, NEVER MIND.

Celine Chamberlin

I'm proud of you, Sam.

Ian McDonald

This is so wholesome

Mordaeus

I hope he doesn't vomit that up too!!

Shawn K. Younkin

That’s some hardcore adulting Sam just did. Good for you, kid.

TubaGinger

*shovels this healthy character growth directly into my open mouth*
