And in doing so, she has assuaged his anger. When I was in 6th grade, I knew I had missed a couple words on a spelling test, but the teacher had given me a perfect score. So I went up to his desk and told him "sir, I got these two words wrong, but you gave me a perfect score." He said I did indeed get them wrong, and he had missed it. But he rewarded me for my honesty, and let the perfect score stand. I have no idea what words I had missed, but I will forever remember his lesson on the importance of honesty.

I read this when it posted, and just read it again. After 30 years as an engineer, on Monday I'm interviewing to become a high school Engineering teacher. I hope to treat my students just like this. Set aside the initial reaction, focus on the facts, and look at the big picture.
