It's Going Great

It's Going Great

Comments

A very wise senior professor said to me (when I was having trouble in his course): "Don't worry. You are an undergraduate. You know nothing. When you are a graduate student, you will learn one thing - your thesis. After that, you start to learn Mathematics."

Matt Grayson

I'm convinced that making masters students write a thesis is actually part of an elaborate hazing ritual

Jonathan Wallace

This subject is close to home for me; my aunt is a librarian. https://prabook.com/web/johanne_h.fairs.grewell/529851 And yes, I did buy her the T-shirt. :)

Jeffrey Nonken

To disagree (very slightly): learning taxonomies and indexing can eat your soul and pull you into the depths and leave you gasping and disoriented 12 hours later in a cubicle. But that's less studying and more "here's a set of objects, organize and interconnect them."

Library and information science just isn't all that hard, because there just isn't very much to it. The two big questions are what terms people are going to look information up under and how people will phrase requests for information, and no one can answer them. The big problem is to teach people how to tell reliable from unreliable information sources, and it turns out that most people don't want to do that because it's hard. That leaves you with a set of techniques for not fucking it up too bad this time, and it's not a very big set. Most schools make you do a thesis-sized research project at the end though, just so you will know that feeling of drowning alone in the middle of the ocean and have some sympathy for people who show up at the reference desk feeling like that. That's probably why Claire has the rictus smile.

Feet in the air!

Maurice Kessler

Good luck to your nephew!!

Shawn K. Younkin

My Nephew just got through this $#!t with his Pharma Boards. Now he has to wait three months for the results :/

Believe it or Don't, Pintsize IS helping... by sitting and being quiet!

Ah, the "Nope, I'm fine, I don't want to be a burden despite the fact I'M SCREAMING INSIDE!" behavior of someone with anxiety and confidence issues/depression. Claire, he loves you. Talk to him.

Ted Van Roekel

Aww, I missed those two ^^

Claire is either going to explode, break down, or set fire to a bunch of things. Either way, she really should talk to someone about things...

David Paul

Uh oh...

Will Weaver

I'm sure that Claire WISHES she could just go all 'Mary Poppins' with her assessments but something tells me that reality is somewhat different!

Ben Russell-Gough

I agree; she's heading for a breakdown of some sort and soon!

Ben Russell-Gough

This is fine

Bagge

Ruh-roh!

Grace Kieser

Flipping all the shit.... and pintsize

Kyle Major

There is something going on with Claire, and I suspect dealing with her will be the next major arc. Of course I could be wrong and it could turn into an arc about Pintsize complaining about being abused and misunderstood.

So stressful

Brian Ellingboe

With sleeves rolled up, so not TOO fancy...

BobC

Poor Claire... the life of a grad student is super stressful

Kyle Jenkins

Marten's all fancy, what's the occasion?

Eric Sieck

Pintsize looks like he's trying to escape the blast zone. She's long ago established that she can be terrifying to him, and this seems to be unusual behaviour for her. So it's only natural that he would be afraid of what might happen next.

awgiedawgie

I remember people like this from college. I probably should have been one of them.
