Subjective Taste

I see you, Brun

This is off topic, but does anyone have a link to the guest comic Jeph ran years ago that was a silent, black and white line drawing comic that told the story of Wozzeck using QC characters? I've been trying to find it and can find no reference to it. I think there might have even been a poster of it at some point.

Ralph

At least now he knows that Clinton can suppress his gag reflex really good (yes, I'm going to burn in hell for this joke).

Evgeniy Semyonov

Well, he works at the bakery, and so he had seen all kind of raw, gritty stuff. He may not be the salt of the earth, but he certainly is the dough of the earth kind of guy. Oh, and being a bouncer at the bar likely helped too.

Evgeniy Semyonov

FYI <a href="http://www.geniuskitchen.com/recipe/beer-bread-73440" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">http://www.geniuskitchen.com/recipe/beer-bread-73440</a> just a few ingredients - self-rising flour, sugar, butter, 1 12 oz can of beer. TIP: SIFT THE FLOOR to make the 3cup measure. I also added garlic and herbs. Sometimes grated cheese if i had any. I used brown sugar. Or honey if that's all i had. Try it regular recipe first, then experiment

Kerin Schiesser

When i was a cheap-ass student in college, and broke, after a party (after which there was nearly always a six-pack left of some crappy beer someone had brought, but ignored as they drank our Good Beer) we would make Beer Bread. If you keep cheap staples around the house, like flour, you can whip up some Beer Bread anytime. It's better with the Good Beer, but you can make it with any kind. Would be hilarious if Brun - who likes bread products and worked in a bar - has that one special gift - Beer Bread.

Kerin Schiesser

That's her 'Indiana Jones is trying to fool the pressure plate' expression.

Ben Russell-Gough

It is much better fresh out of the oven and still warm. It does not retain moisture so well as a yeast bread, and it gets stale quickly. On the other hand, you can whomp up a fresh batch any time, because it is quick and easy.

I've never actually tried soda bread (weird I know as I'm like 70% Irish/Scots Irish)... Is it really that bad?

Churchill (formerly TeaBear)

That first panel tho, the way Elliot's looking at Clinton like he's a naive little marshmallow. It's too cute.

Morgan

Panel 1 is probably the cutest thing ever imo

Morgan

Haha, I forgot that Elliot knows she has a bread fetish, which actually makes this 10x cuter somehow bc look at how innocent Clinton is.

Morgan

Callback joke to <a href="https://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=3724" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=3724</a>

You know what would drive Roko absolutely meltinecstacy wild? Real true potato bread. Fragrant, as tender-grained as angel food cake, as warm as a grandmothers cuddle.

Holly Nelson

Is it called coke bread in the South?

Dean Reilly

Brun in that last panel gives me life.

Rob McBobson

I've been looking at panel 1 again and meditating on how ironic it is that ELLIOT of all people is thinking of others as 'cute when they're naive'.

Ben Russell-Gough

That was a very well bread comment, I think. :)

It takes all kinds, huh?

Stoodmuffin

Okay, so any desire to try soda bread just evaporated along with Clinton's enthusiasm. It's interesting that Clinton has noticed that there is something weird going on vis Roko and bread but is still assuming that what she said to him a few dozen strips back about feeding birds is factual. I'm not sure if that makes him naive or polite! Of course, Elliott knows the reality and I get the feeling that he's genuinely conflicted about whether he should tell Clinton! Finally, I see that Brun is desperately working towards winning the 'cutie of the week' award!

Ben Russell-Gough

Looks like he may have just figured that out on his own!

awgiedawgie

Silly Clinton, soda bread's for rubbing on your butt, not for eating! Right, Roko?

Thomas Boys

Got a non-FB link for that?

Brad Knowles

Oh, I just figured it out -- it must be called "Clintlock". ;)

Brad Knowles

So, what is the lock of Clinton's hair called? And has anyone noticed it doing that before? I mean, it almost seems sentient there in panel #4....

Brad Knowles

Better sell this one, Clinton

Bagge

I want Brunelton. Not sure if Jeph is going to go that far off the social norms highway, though...

Creepy Cat Lady

Clinton lying to spare Elliot's feelings is adorable. Elliot letting Clinton think she's really feeding the birds is adorable. Clinton and Elliot are adorable. Now that the Faybles ship has launched, we are in construction of a new ship... Taking name suggestions. I'm leaning toward Elton πŸ˜›

gatherer818

Must be a dry kind of bread.

Brent Catherman

...and bees?

Captain Button

Being the total bastard I am, I have this to say: You need to follow your medical instructions. And I hope your surgery is as successful as my sisters was. (She lost over half her total body weight and looks wonderful, it's added YEARS to her life and an infinite amount to her self esteem.)

The final frame, with Brun sneaking some of that bread... Oh Brun, WHY must you be so cute?

Typo in tag line? "You could JUT ask, Brun."

BobC

I love Elliott's look as he says, "The birds..." It’s like, "You really believe that, don’t you? You’re so sweet and naive." Which is completely amusing coming from him,

Erin Hartshorn

So I just had weight loss surgery on Monday and goddamn do I want that fucken soda bread right now.

Gary Walker

Soda bread is def not for everyone

Nicholas Lopez

Yes, love me that soda bread...

Hugh Eckert

In the Upper Midwest it's called pop bread

Magic Chopstick Games

Poor Elliot.

Miyaa

Brun really looking thirsty...er, hungry in that last frame.

Will Weaver

I love the hair wilt. Lol.

Oh yeah, raw soda bread is just....bleh....you gotta have some jam or butter to put on that stuff

Cave

Basilik's bread fetish is my favorite developing storyline after faye and bubbles.

Cave

I love that Jeph still draws visual gags like it's 2003 and we're going to make them into LiveJournal userpics. I also love that these comments immediately became Soda Bread Opinion Central. (I'll have your soda bread, dear, I love it!)

Asher Rose Fox

Gay couple or riot

Alcaria Swain

Soda bread can be reeeealy dry if it’s not totally perfect. And also when it’s totally perfect. Definitely plays well with butter.

TubaGinger

EVERYONE NEEDS TO STOP BEING SO CUTE
