Oh, I'm quite sure he is also suffering those agonies <i>after</i> they're gone as well. There's nothing exactly "efficient" about anxiety. Even <i>one</i> crush can do this to a man if he's inexperienced with the ladies. And of course, it probably didn't help him any to see the two of them walk in <i>together...</i> Does all sorts of horrible things to one's mind.

I take it that the presence of two crushes at once is what is causing Elliott to lose his shit entirely. This is not how it is done, however. The proper way is to talk along giddily, and then, when they are gone, suffer agonies of terror and remorse thinking how everything you said could have been misconstrued. It is more efficient that way.

I'm not the most socially apt at times. Part of me feels like, "I'm your friend and I love you, can't you please make the assumption that if I say something that can be misinterpreted, you'll assume I'm not deliberately trying to hurt you (and then help me by giving me alternate wording if you are feeling offended)?" The other part of me feels that ignorance is no excuse. Period. For the record, the former is how I treat my friends, and, really, anyone (unless the situation is clearly NOT that).

That's unexpected, Brun. So, what is your dream job for which being a bar back is just a temporary stop-gap? Oh, I forgot, you want to be a bartender, not a bar back! Poor Elliott though! He's pretty much going through life looking for opportunities to decry himself as stupid and thoughtless, isn't he? It's a shame because he's a nice man. It's just that he doesn't just lack self-confidence, he actively looks for reasons to have self-loathing!

I told my brother for years that he might just have to settle for flipping burgers for a while. Sure, he's capable of a lot more, but like Brun said, it's a job. And if and when he does find that dream job, they're not going to look favourably on several years of not working at all. And for goodness sake, don't tell them "I was waiting for my dream job." Because the first thing that's going to pop into their heads is "and how long is it going to take you to quit working <i>here</i>? There's no such thing as a 'dream job'. They're <i>all</i> nightmares."
