If it closes automatically - as is often the case in commercial buildings - then no. It would have already closed behind Pintsize before panel 1 (don't ask how he opens doors - that ranks right up with how he holds things with his little orb hands), and then closed again behind Melon. You just don't see when it's open because you only get to see still frames, not video.

If you aren't conscious of fear of vulnerability, you are either suppressing it or are fearless. All fear is fear of vulnerability. Also, although one can never be entirely sure about repressed feelings and motives, if someone says something to you and you find yourself weeping unexpectedly, it is a sign that something or other is going on that you don't know about. If one reads symbolically, Anthony Jones is Pintsize's utterance on the subject of his vulnerability, and is as unintelligible and alien to him as to anyone else. Jones does stand in much the same relationship to Pintsize as a child would: of him and in some way his, but not in any way part of him. I have no idea whether the comic can sustain being read symbolically. Probably not. It will be interesting to see. I don't think Melon has ever shown a moment of unkindness, anger, or resentment. She is shaping up into a kind of holy fool, like in the Thoth tarot deck, or Tolkein's Tom Bombadil, or Tolstoy's island hermits so foolish that they have to be taught to pray and who then come running across the water after the bishop's boat because they forgot the words.
