I think you nailed it. She's not expressing disapproval of the joke, but rather trying to inform Clinton, "no, see, we're doing dog jokes."

I don't think Brun disliked the joke. I think she was thrown off because she found it funny even though she was on a dog joke kick. I think Brun likes Clinton because he throws her off in a way she doesn't hate. But he still throws her off, which causes her to forget to use the few social cues she consciously *has* learned, making it seem like she is not amused at all.
But I bet she's off the dog jokes now...
