Tying Up Loose Ends

Spookybot is nothing if not thorough

Tying Up Loose Ends

Comments

Just as well Emily isn't looking for a relationship right now then?

David Howe

maybe he just inadvertently calculated? after all, 1 OR 2 = 3 :D

David Howe

I only just noticed in panel 1 that spooky-bot suggests 'one or two limbs' and Jeremy replies, "I will add three limbs". Nice. Subtle. Many hidden depths in Jeremy. I hope we get to see more of him!

Marc Pengryffyn

Dora in a suit? Dora in a suit. Mm-hmm. Dora ... in a suit. Mmmmm.

Jumpy James Johnson Junior

Is the incredibly powerful and utterly terrifying incarnation of Something Scary supposed to be that hot in panel 3?

Jumpy James Johnson Junior

I am upset that you don't know how to draw knitting properly. UPSET.

Asher Rose Fox

I am imagining spooky bot is doing these simultaneously.

LOL (at him) he's tired of being a CPA! I'm dyin heah!

I can't read what PunchBot's name thingy on his desk says :C

Ami

Do my eyes deceive me or is that an old school NES controller?

James

I hope this isn't the last we'll see of Jeremy... Or dear ol' Barty Punchbot. So great.

Morgan McCauley

I sincerely hope this isn't the last we've seen of the 'bot in black. That entity was positively delightful! * And Bartholomew Punchbot, CPA? That was as awesome as it was adorable. I'd say maximum satisfaction was achieved here. ❤️❤️❤️

Pretty sure Bubbles could take most anything short of Station in a fight.

Ian Wolfe

Such a long, detailed setup for the Punchbot: CPA punchline, and so dang worth it :D

I think Emily is just comfortable with everyone, always.

Kristian

Emily and Spookybot seem awfully comfortable with each other.

Panel 5 of this comic is why, I'd guess: <a href="http://www.dumbingofage.com/2016/comic/book-7/01-glower-vacuum/dee-ell/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">http://www.dumbingofage.com/2016/comic/book-7/01-glower-vacuum/dee-ell/</a>

Eric Rucker

WHY WOULD AN AI NEED GLASSES?

Lucy

"Bartholomew Punchbot, CPA" is the best part.

Peevester

By the way, if anyone cares to speculate that the spookybot entity is both NOT honest enough to 'never lie,' AND smart enough to manipulate human expectations, read up on Libratus, the latest AI that's learned how to outbluff the best humans (thought it's a bit scary): <a href="https://www.wired.com/2017/02/libratus/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.wired.com/2017/02/libratus/</a>

Ian MacLean

for the second image on that thread.... Bubbles: Marten, the shark on your shirt doesn't anatomically fit its shorts. I suggest you add a limb or two. Marten: I will add three limbs.

FunkyTuba

It's been bugging me trying to figure out who spookybot reminds me of. I finally got it. Stillson, from Frank Herbert's The Godmakers (highly recommended). QC is a fun cartoon set in a coffee shop, but when it goes into interesting scif-fi story arcs, it becomes positively cinematic. I literally start seeing it as a movie in my head. Well done, sir!

Ian MacLean

Those of you who are on the forum probably know there are weekly caption contests... here's a link to this week's: <a href="https://forums.questionablecontent.net/index.php/topic,33637.msg1374431.html" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://forums.questionablecontent.net/index.php/topic,33637.msg1374431.html</a>

FunkyTuba

No, because then her prof will have to talk to the government, again...

David Howe

From now on, all QC comics will be numbered 3413.

Trigon Manthree

I kind of want to see what Emily will come up with!

Hawkeye

So open up a shop that repairs bots? I know someone who could use a job.

Spookybot is my favorite.

Jennifer Loh

Does the cactus have a name? Will we see him again?

Matthew Van Gangelen

I'm thinking that Spookybot is an aspect of the "consciousness" of the hive mind created when the mega computers link.

Edward Justice

Congrats, you made it - here are your complimentary sunglasses - ⌐■_■

David Howe

More surprised Officer Racoonbait wasn't responding with standard Officer questions regarding who, why, and WTF they got into her flat....

David Howe

I think more likely NES - SNES controllers weren't square, although the shape of the controller could be concealed by her hands I guess.. That said, seeing Emily playing (and winning) at a game normally played with a full VR Rig and feedback gloves via a (S)NES controller would be very Emily indeed...

David Howe

Time enough; this is the Thurs strip, so CW could still be (entertainingly) foolish and attempt to escape....

David Howe

"Limbs" is non-specific - I am now imagining Tripod Jeremy...

David Howe

Dewey, Punchem &amp; Howe

David R Long

If the fighting ring goes above-board, May could work there!

tresi

That definitely looks like Bartholomew Punchbot, CPA of the firm Punchbot and Punchbot.

Whelp... no cliffhangers there (for a change).

Lightsabr2

It seems they're more neutral. Good enough to genuinely care about Bubbles and her predicament, after all.

Chris Hewson

I bet Bubbles could still take SpiderJeremy in a fight though :D

David Howe

Yaaay!

Billie Thompson

More like fingers on a single hand...

David Howe

They look more like they were twisted out of wire - maybe Punchbot felt they needed glasses for their role? or maybe they thought they could apply the Superman principle and not be recognised while in their secret identity ? :D

David Howe

Well, it's presumably now Cannon. Or Railgun, whatever :D

David Howe

Hmm. I wonder if Hanners would consider them "kinda hot" - &lt;/ship alert&gt;

David Howe

"Even in real life"? I've never seen any sort of wrap-up in real life. It all just keeps going on and on in my experience. Maybe your life has better writers than mine.

j-beda

Don't CPAs spend a lot of time punching information into a computer? :D

David Howe

&lt;shocked at="language" /&gt;

David Howe

Question: with CW out of the way, and the fighting arena now becoming more legitimate, would Faye and Bubbles want to return to their previous duties? I mean, Faye left because CW was an absolute (to use robo-swearing) <a href="http://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1200" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">QWERTY</a>, threatening May simply by placement, which then got Faye fired for that fully-justifiable punch in the face. And Bubbles... Bubbles was deceived, and placed into, for all intents and purposes, servitude and virtual imprisonment. But she has friends there. Jeremy, Punchbot and all the others did not show even the slightest duplicity in their attitude towards either Bubbles or Faye. And I think, with both their skills and intimate knowledge of the fighting AI there, they would be most welcome indeed...

David Paul

Waiting for spookybot to be the larger evil here. They're doing a lot of good, but there must be an endgame. Although, I do like the idea of them playing the field, not particularly interested in being "good" or "bad". Sort of like Izaya from DRRR.

Nicholas Ruff

As I recall, they did. Also stuff about philosophical zombie AI. Not sure if The Suit is an aspect of that, though, as they seem a bit too self-aware.

Peter Jensen

I like "Spookybot". It's like the android incarnation of Dora, or Spookybutt.

Does Punchbot work for "Punchbot &amp; Punchbot, CPAs"?

Eric Davies

Ooh, Emily's playing a Super Nintendo, by the looks of it. :)

Chris Hewson

I suspect encouraging Emily to build on this is a really, really bad idea, even for Spookybot...

David Howe

I'm trying to read the little nameplate on his desk, and coming up with Bartholomew Somethingorother, CPA.

I don't know... but with Spookybot who can really say?

Can we just talk about how amazing that suit is.

thursday

The question I have to ask is: Is this happening in series, or all at the same time?

Paul Rendell

First thing that came in my head upon seeing panel #4 was "Punchbot D. Quickbooks: Certified Public Accountant"... I found that hilarious for some reason.

Rudolph Gerber

I can't help but look at Spookybot as a robot version of Dora. Now I think Dora would look sexy in a suit. Also, I miss Winslow. And Sara.

Punchbot is a CPA? Would he help me with my taxes?

BobC

Once upon a time, didn't Faye and Bubbles have a conversation about the possibility of an AI hivemind? Am I misremembering that?

D.K.

Squee! Basilisk is a knitter! *happydance*

Ian Wolfe

I came here to chew gum and read Punchbot comments and I'm all out of gum.

Scott Vogel

wow they really know how to tie up lose ends

Kyle Major

I don't think I've ever seen such a sensible wrap-up even in real life. 11/10.

pilgrim3

As someone with experience visiting lots of remarkably boring offices, I feel pretty comfortable assuming that it's a business more than the home of two married punchbots. But perhaps Both. Both is good.

Spookybot, canon name? I can dig it.

This is the most I've seen commented. I just wanted to be one of the cool kids.

Lazarus G

Spookybot is mysteriously sexy. I am both fascinated and disturbed by this. But I like that they seem to have a kind side. I look forward to seeing Jeremy in the three armed thundercloud formation.

Indigo

Hah, cute!

Shawn K. Younkin

I'm guessing CPA stands for "Certified Punch Accountant" just punchin' in those numbers all day long

Waffliesinyoface

I love Spookybot!

Spookily thorough. Thoroughly spooky.

Hugh Eckert

Well, Spookybot it is. If it's what Jeff calls this being (him, her, or true androgynous) I'm good with it.

Right, they normally don't but these trivial matters are a result of their being involved in something they felt was important (one AI exploiting and subjugating another AI). Best to tie up any loose ends and be done with it.

Tinwhisker

I love this ending! I also love that Officer Racoon-Chaser likes to knit. My wife is a knitter...

Marc Pengryffyn

Wonder what it is? A magazine pouch for her Em gun perhaps?

Andy Sleeper

HAH!!

Shawn K. Younkin

This is just too pat. In 3392, iSatan said they don't normally involve themselves in such trivial matters. Well these are a bunch of trivial matters the less puissant humans and AIs could do for themselves. For me, the story is better with the fumbling mortals doing what they do and they returning to their perch.

Andy Sleeper

I see a "Punchbot &amp; Punchbot" - is Punchbot perhaps married???

Shawn K. Younkin

TOO through...

Sam Thacker

I thought nothing could make me happier than CorpseWitch getting what's coming to her, but this one makes me even happier :)

KellyZ

Bartholomew Punchbot

Stavros Karatsoridis

So pleased that Basilisk knits :)

Ashleah

Interesting, a lot of people are being helped by this incident. Whatever their motives, Spookybot is leaving most people better off than before (except for Corpswitch who is getter what she deserves).

Wild Card

Deus Ex Machina.

Mike Gilson

I think there are multiple spookybots, twenty bodies one mind.

Drakoo Dreamer

I love how Punchbot has reading glasses.

Punchbot is a CPA?!? Actually that explains a lot...

Chris Gallaty

I actually love spookybot? At first I thought they were creepy but now I love

CPA, where the P stands for PUNCHING

Mike de Jong
