there was an indication in earlier comics that Bubbles was part of a team and the team died or had something bad happen to them.

I'm fairly certain (but not absolutely) a previous comic stated that Bubble's chassis can take on a tank.

Without sending a single instruction, this comic blew out my soundcard with the loudness of the implied drama-chord at the end. Love it.

Yes, so I'm not surprised she's panicking. What I do not understand is
a) why Fae smacked her (just because CW puts more pressure on May?)
b) why everyone in comments is on her side

Ah, but May would not necessarily know that. For all she knew, that was a legitimate threat. Plus she was already panicking. Probably wouldn't be thinking straight.

Ah. I thought so, but I couldn't remember if it had been directly addressed before or not. With a chassis like that though, you're bound to get attention from unsavoury types who want protection sooner or later. Wouldn't be surprised to learn that Bubbles got mixed up in all that at some point.

Yeah, that's been addressed in several other strips. She was a military AI and they decommissioned them because civilians were too afraid of a AI super robot coup.

Honestly, the way Bubbles chassis looks she was probably designed for security or military purposes. You don't get synthetic abs like those without some serious design choices behind it. I'm guessing at some point in her life she was repurposed for something far more shady. Not quite Futurama's robot mafia, but somewhere close.

So, I guess Bubbles is some sort of undercover investigator, so secret the local (incompetent) cops like Roko don't know about her. Considering Corpse Witch apparently has friends in local government, I would think she's FBI, or FAIBI (Federal Artificial Intelligence Bureau of Investigation) or whatever better acronym Jeph invents.

I agree. It does look, at the moment, more like emotional manipulation than anything else.

I like this, although i feel the reason might be quite a bit simpler, just because way things go. But i wouldnt be disappointed with an outcome like this

As I saw it, CW:a words were no more of a real threat than me saying "if you tell about it to anyone I'll kill you". I admit, she clearly tries to appear almighty and menacing, but by this point has yet to commit anything actually evil (she didn't want May to be operated, but it felt more selfish/practical/self-preservation) .

May isn't the most sympathetic character, but even she doesn't deserve whatever torture that CW threatened. (hell, any US prison would be considered torture in any civilised country)

I think it'll end up being more along the lines of emotional entrapment. The pink boss lady likely has convinced Bubbles her actions led to the death of her squad mates and from there had secretly manipulated bubbles to fear leaving her and the building. After all she was very careful to try and make bubbles feel like she was unwelcome outside. And additionally, both Pink and Bubbles had moments of consideration regarding each others treatment of Faye, as Faye is clearly disturbing a long set status quo between the two of them.

I hope having May suggest Bubbles isn't innocent in this is just a bit of misdirection by Jeph. May does tend to go to the criminal option first when trying to guess the motives of others. I'm still holding out hope that Bubbles isn't, in fact, the secret owner of the operation.

I'm kind of irritated with Faye for presuming Bubbles would be willing and able to turn her life upside down just because Faye took a stand for someone neither of them know well. Also, for all she knows Bubbles is planning to follow her, but she couldn't let corpse witch see that until she had her ducks in a row.
