I was kidding when I put my previous comment up here - now maybe I'm not. We have this wonderfully open minded and supportive cast here - but would Faye and Bubbles cause a new form of bigotry to arise? hmmm sure I read some kind of sci fi on that theme - now I got it Asimov "Satisfaction Guaranteed". Hey Jeph - you familiar with that story?

There's some reasoning to that, though. For some tech, older stuff is more robust in ... less than optimal circumstances. Though often it's mainly the delays in getting everything certified, and a reluctance to going through it *again* for the latest stuff, which holds it back. I've had to solder to space-grade specs once, and that was one heck of a dense manual (though it detailed both commercial, military, and space).

...and neither means a whole lot, as far as quality goes. There's a lot of hardware that's military spec, approved by the Pentagon, that's crap when compared to commonly-available civilian tech.

You might want to think about changing "military-grade" to "military-spec." Military-grade is mostly a marketing term (Dennis Leary shouting about "military-grade" aluminum bodies on Ford trucks is an example of that.) "Military-spec" is an actual specification items have to meet to be used by the military.
