June 2018 - Update on Progress

Hey patrons, we'd like to apologize for not getting more updates for all of you. We've been working hard on fixing the bugs!

I know that we wanted to do an Alpha last month, but there were game-breaking network bugs with our server code, so we had to delay.

Transparency

Example of a network bug that would have killed the experience if we were to release the Alpha in May:

- Player 1 tries to send a card from his deck to hand. Player 1 manages to do so, but the server did not record that transaction. Example: 2 Thunder Dragons going to the hand. So when Player 1 fusion summons Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon because he has 2 Thunder Dragons, the Server is thinking WHAT? You don't have any Thunder Dragons!

J and I have been going through test duels to fix these game-breaking network bugs.

Why are there Network Bugs?

Back in October 2017, the AR portion had pretty smooth Peer to Peer networking.

You might know that we began the cross-platform work and matchmaking between January 2018 - March 2018.

We re-wrote our entire network stack between those months because our end-goal is having an automated dueling system. Not a Peer to Peer one.

There were some lessons to be learned, but we have been continually working.

I can vouch for the hard work that J has done. J can vouch for the work that I try to accomplish every day.

Developing this new stack brought forth bugs, but there's a right way to do something and the wrong way to do something.

We're trying to do things the right way because it will give us the knowledge to scale and make this dueling simulator better and better!

In late May 2018, when J and I were testing duels, we just kept on encountering more network bugs. We would try something new with a certain card, and then, we would realize, "Oh wait, there's a bug with that."

But I can assure you that things are moving along. We find bugs, and we fix them.

What's the plan?

We developed a nice matchmaking system, but the Windows Platform for VR and AR uses a .NET that doesn't have all the API calls that we want to use.

We're fixing certain .NET calls at the moment.

Joe and I are still doing a bunch of test duels to see what needs fixing.

We'll try to show some VR or AR stuff ASAP.

You'll usually see me or J on Discord, developing on Unity. Talk to us or duel with the community!
