The Text

Hey Patrons,

The third movie of the year is officially out!

I posted two videos on Joel Talks About Movies breaking it down!

I wanted to use my movie shot during The Oscars as my movie for March and did lots to make it still feel special.

Thanks to everyone who has checked it out, it's really lovely to see so many reactions to it.

I have something really special planned for April that I can't wait to bring to life. Thanks for the support, this year is just getting started!

Love, Joel Haver

Took me some time to get around to watching this, really glad I did. Loved it, so funny and felt so honest.

I'm really loving the movies coming out every month. "The Text" is my favorite so far. I have a couple male friends where that subject matter hits way too hard. Specifically, why did you send that to anybody, let alone a woman that you're trying to convince you aren't a killer. Then to see the female reaction of "Oh you seem creepy, but that's nothing new to her. She's just going to ignore you forever now. You're good." Good job, and don't burn yourself out!

Loved this third release Joel! Cannot dismiss being immediately gripped by this story-line and pulled in by the characters and single take video feed The concept is explorative through multiple medium, Dax reading his Text the first time off the white board is as cryptic and dead pan. Having the other character re-live the text and interpret live in the forum. Dax & Joel conflict is strong and complicated, pushing Dax to the absolute limit is a good idea on screen. Must say really enjoyed Francesca's reads at the end and just breaking through the paranoid dynamic and giving clean outsider live takes. There is a formula here that is compelling akin to the modern Tragedy & Comedy mask being worn and explored.

wow, this was another great film, one of the best in my opinion, how is this possible

When this first popped up on YouTube I was a minute in before I thought "this is a one-shot, and that music is diagetic and being played live in-shot, better not mess up, buddy" and then thought "wait naaaah that's too hard. This thing was made in only a month. There will definitely be cuts and the music was added later." Lo and behold. I also thought "If I were producing this, I'd have two whiteboards, but Joel is careful with his budget so please don't tell me he made the guy have to try to write all that really fast and get it right the first time, just to save on whiteboards." I would've been totally terrified to be the actress coming in as the last character at the end of a one-shot and needing to not fuck up the take. Everyone was amazing.

I can't believe the execution of the whole movie in a single shot. The planning that must have taken staggers me!

Scottie McPherson

This one had me giggling and kicking my feet. Loved all the characters and they were played perfectly. Special shoutout to Dax as I’m a longtime fan of his stuff

I really enjoyed "The Text" in fact I think it's the best of the 3 you've made so far this year (not sure it eclipses the GLP movie however lol) I really enjoyed the 1-take and the aspect ratio, really well done and super impressive!

L'il Louis

this one was so good

Zane Berry

Can't wait for the commentary on this one especially. All the meticulous planning and blocking that must've gone into it would make a great discussion

Jamie C. Callaghan

Amazing film, and very relatable
