Patreon Upate: Reworking Tiers and 2021!
Added 2020-12-29 04:57:52 +0000 UTCHey everyone!
This has been a truly wild month. As of today I passed 300,000 subscribers. A month ago I had 1/100th of that.
Welcome to all the new patrons! I really can't overstate how amazing it is to see so many people who enjoy my content go out of their way to support it. I love that all the things I make (shorts and feature films alike) are free to watch and I always want it to be that way. The overwhelming support on here will make that possible. Thank you so much.
With the growth of the channel comes the time I need to rework the Patreon page. Unfortunately, for the time being, I am going to get rid of the Character Name and Dialogue tiers. I've already amassed a massive backlog of names and quotes that need to be used and I'm so slow to use them as is. At this rate, I'll have character names and dialogue to use until at least 2023! Everyone that donated this month can still submit their names and dialogue for December.
One of my favorite parts of those tiers is that they involved the audience in the creative part of the process. It's an idea I want to explore further in the future, in a more suitable way at this new scale. For now, the benefits of the $1, $5 and $10 tiers will be the same until I figure out new rewards (this means no more dialogue or character names). Everyone who supports will always get their names at the end of every short, it makes the list at the end absolutely massive but I think anyone who goes out of their way to support the art they enjoy deserves their due credit. Also, having too many Patreon supporters to fit on one screen is a good problem to have!
The $50 Producer Credit tier will stay! Anyone who donates at that level will get their names at the end of my next feature as a Patreon Producer.
Also, I apologize for not getting back to messages quicker. Right now I have 32 on Patreon, 70 on Instagram and I don't even want to think about email. It's just a matter of getting used to operating at this new size. Patreon messages will be prioritized moving forward and unless I want to lose all my time I will have to get good at ignoring most direct messages and emails. Comes with the territory I'm finding out real fast.
With all of this said, I couldn't be more excited for 2021. Many, many great things to come. One of my favorite parts of this has been seeing people going back to watch Pretend That You Love Me. That film is very near and dear to my heart and to see it connect with more people than ever is incredibly fulfilling. I can't wait for the day that I release a new feature film, for free, to a massive audience.
When I say thank you, I truly mean it. In August I had less than $200 to my name and was barely scraping by, now I'm going to be able to support myself doing what I love fulltime. Thank you for that.
Love, Joel Haver
PS: Just a reminder that Patreon charges on the first of every month! I wish it charged people a month from the day they subscribed, but c'est la vie! Just know if you pledged in late December, on January 1st you'll be charged again. Wish you the best <3

Yeah, that's a great point Quentin and Laura. He's clearly been working flat-out for a long time, so here's hoping he knows that as much we all want more great comedy from the man, Joel's wellbeing and mental health should an will always come first. Look after yourself buddy and make sure to give yourself the time you need to rest :)

2021-01-15 11:29:10 +0000 UTCHI Quentin! Well said. I 100% agree and I’ve been thinking about these things too. It would be totally normal to experience a mix of all kinds of emotions during a rapid change in publicity (or any rapid life change). I think we can all agree that Joel’s well-being matters far more than his content.

2021-01-15 07:26:06 +0000 UTCReally happy to see your channel blow up fellow person ! It's great because there's so much content that's already there to watch. Don't push/pressure yourself too hard with this new fame and though! It must be pretty overwhelming I bet. I'm in it for the long run because you brought me joy in these crappy times and I believe you have great potential! I'd be sad to see you burn out trying to pump out 10 videos a week :p Just do what you love, whatever it is and try to keep a healthy life balance!

2021-01-14 03:01:11 +0000 UTCNew subscriber here. Digging your content a bunch! Keep up the hard work, looks like its paying off! Stay gold, Joel!
2021-01-13 01:32:30 +0000 UTCLove what you're doing. Obviously like a lot of people I was drawn in by some of the great animation-type stuff you've put out (which is incredible and uniquely you) and now I'm just steadily working my way through all your other work. You could definitely edit all your sketches/videos into a show? Either way keep doing what you're doing!

2021-01-12 22:27:05 +0000 UTCAll I know is that ever since we implemented "Joel House" rules in our own household things haven't been better. The toilets have never been cleaner, the lack of screaming has led us all to spiritual nirvana, and our bones have never been stronger from the milk overflowing from our cups. Thanks Joel!
2021-01-11 04:26:31 +0000 UTCI don't really care about a credit - I really hope you continue your success in what you're doing. Going independent from production houses and *gag* taking funding proposals to potential investors is a smart move, will make you happier and more flexible in the long run - meaning you never have to balance your creative vision with pleasing your audience and a/(blank) financial investor/s. It's a good move and you got talent my man.
2021-01-10 17:23:14 +0000 UTCApologies for that! Will get it fixed in the next upload! Thanks for the support <3

2021-01-08 06:44:45 +0000 UTCHey, I'm a new subscriber and I *think* my username is spelled wrong at the end card of videos-- it says “Kat Black" instead of “Kat Back".
2021-01-08 06:43:49 +0000 UTCI've noticed all the new subscribers are rediscovering all the old comments and I'm getting replies from people on ancient works of literary genius. The new subscribers are cool people who are also very clever

2021-01-03 11:56:35 +0000 UTCI'd prefer not to be mentioned in the credits until I actually contributed anything else then money I guess. Besides I wanted to make possible a few hours off work anyway.

2021-01-02 19:44:13 +0000 UTCSo happy to be part of this community now! I only started watching your videos last week, and today I was laughing so much to like, 5 of them in a row that I said: "where is the Patreon link, now!". Congratulations man for your success, all the best to you!

2020-12-30 21:51:19 +0000 UTCCongrats! But yeah, 40 'prompts' every month are a lot, I'd love to watch some kind of meeting live with/for patrons where you review your backlog of ideas, and how you (and maybe some collaborators) react and have first ideas on how to approach, and maybe try to combine, some of the names and dialogue lines. This could be the basis of a new tier/s where you still involve the audience in the creative process without having to set a limit on it.

2020-12-29 08:22:59 +0000 UTCYou do good work and crack me up, so I subscribed :)
2020-12-29 06:18:58 +0000 UTCLook here now, there's only room enough for two Tristan's on this support list. I propose we band together to kill any future Tristan's that join on, waddaya say?
2020-12-29 06:18:07 +0000 UTCSo happy for ya Joel!

2020-12-29 05:18:21 +0000 UTCI recently had the joy of watching another great channel blow up and it is wonderful to see it happen again to someone else. Congrats!! I'm very happy to join as a Patreon. You seem like a really cool, passionate, sweet guy, and it is a pleasure to contribute, in however tiny a way, towards you making more great stuff.

2020-12-29 05:18:15 +0000 UTCIt's a good suggestion that I've definitely considered before! At the end of the day I don't want to place too much value on the size of the donation, supporting art is supporting art and it's amazing either way and I don't want people who can't afford as much to feel "smaller" because of it so to speak. I've always been someone who leaps at the chance to find creative new ways to do things and I'm sure that'll come to me soon.

2020-12-29 05:14:14 +0000 UTCIt hasn't clicked for me that I'm not a small channel anymore, I got so used to it! Thanks for the support <3
