The movie you were thinking of with Brad Pitt and Bruce Willis I believe is "12 Monkeys" and I actually have a crazy story involving that movie. I was watching it with my friends and I started to doze off during the part when he was going in the bathroom to rip out his own tooth. I was also dehydrated and due to being in this strange state of half-lucidity where I was partly in a dream, I could visually see Bruce Willis Rip out his tooth and I immediately felt sick to my stomach, stood up to go to the other room, and blacked out probably due to dehydration and not being fully awake. I hit my head on the corner of the TV stand and woke up on the floor with a small little pile of blood in front of me with my friend screaming to wake up my Dad and Step-mom. I didn't watch the movie for like 3-5 years after that I think.. hard to remember exactly when. But when I watched it I was shocked to find that the scene where he rips out his tooth is actually not shown and I had dreamed it, they do a quick cut from him going to the bathroom and back out but don't actually show it. The power of cinema is profound to say the least.

I've heard of "My Dinner With Andre" referenced somewhere! thanks for all these amazing recommendations!!! I love finding new interesting movies to watch. What you said about Charlie Chaplin is so true, I saw the speech he made against capitalism in "The Great Dictator" on youtube and tried to watch it... was very difficult I think I only watched 20-30 minutes. I love how that speech has been used in many songs and shared all around though, he got in alot of trouble for making that film during WW2 as well. I can't remember if he got banned or extradited but it wasn't an oscar that's for sure. But I think getting banned in the US is quite an achievement.

Best way is to either clear a day or watch it like a tv show. I've done both and found both enjoyable. Obviously straight through is how wenders wants you to see it, but I got my wife to watch it doing the tv show method which made it like a mini event for us. Pretty fun both ways! Definitely has a ton of music in the film which I absolutely love kinda used how chlorine uses music but just on a larger grander scale.

I don't know what it was, Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence just didn't resonate with me! I knew that would sadden you because at one point it was on your favorites on Letterboxd. I definitely have been wanting to watch Until the End of the World! The runtime is daunting but I just have to take the plunge!

Great video! Loved seeing what you own! I was thinking of doing my collection this month at some point! I will admit when you said you didn't like Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence I got sad cause I bawled like a baby to that one but its a bit of a weird one and I think it either hits or doesn't. Have you seen wim winders until the end of the world? I think that is right up there with paris texas in my opinion although its like 5 hours long just warning you there haha.

Yeah! They have an app and it works pretty well and I think they let you download stuff to watch it offline.

As far as I know the only trusted VPNs that are free are the ones for your phone (not laptop). I might go for that, even though watching on a phone is annoying. Have you ever tried Criterion from your phone?

Noor

Criterion, get your act together!! Can you get it with a VPN? Added The Deserted Station to my watchlist, I think I’d love anything remotely related to Kiarostami haha, thanks for the recommendation!

Joel Haver

The other day I watched a film called The Deserted Station which I think you might like, it's adapted from a story by Abbas Kiarostami, but has this different eerie feeling to it. Unfortunately Criterion is still unavailable in my region :/
