Yes, I loved that "I'm calling you Yaz, cos we're friends now"- Line. She is really funny, and a great actress to get those funny lines across. :) Thank you so much for the history of Chris Chibnails work, that helped me so much, I had no idea I watched so many of his episodes yet. And I completely forgot about Torchwood :) Thanks, really much appreciated :) I do understand the different accents, and I enjoy the variety very much to be honest. I just always wonder, where certain people come from judging by their accent. I´m really bad at that game though haha :D Yes, I am exited to continue as well. And I hope I´ll like it going forward. :)

Haha I´m glad I´m not the only one thinking those pants look kinda strange :D Yeah I was told that Networks changed, but I don´t know how many Series there are in total. I looked at the IMBD site and it said 13 just like the BBC site, so I figured it might be 13. Well, I guess I´ll just wait for Andrew to fill me in, when the time is right. And more Dr. Who content is always better :D :D

"Come on, Ryan. Come on, Yaz. I'm calling you Yaz, cos we're friends now.", The Doctor, "The Woman Who Fell to Earth" I like this first outing of our new Doctor. As you indicated, she does have a bit of the vibe of quick-paces dialog that we had with David. And she has some funny, quirky lines - I really like "I'm calling you Yaz, cos we're friends now". In terms of the new show style, well this will be controversial - I (and I'm just talking for myself) was starting to get a bit overused to the Steven Moffat style of script writing. And I was looking forward to seeing what Chris Chibnall would do. Now, you've see some of Chris Chibnall's scripts before but they probably wouldn't rank in your very highest favorite New Who episodes: "42", "The Hungry Earth" + "Cold Blood", "Dinosaurs on a Spaceship", and "The Power of Three". Wait, I have the Nicole ratings! 7.5, 7.2, 7.8, 7.1, 8.4 - an average of 7.6. But, he also worked on "Torchwood" - he was the head writer on the first two series - and he wrote some of your favourite Torchwood stories: "Countrycide" with the creepy people in the village killing strangers and the "Fragments" + "Exit Wounds" series 2 finale. Of course he also wrote "Day One" and "Cyberwoman" so ratings do vary. "A Stenza warrior wears his conquests.", Tzim-Sha, "The Woman Who Fell to Earth" The character of Tzim-Sha is interesting - and I'm not talking about his tooth obsession. "Some leader you're going to make. Tim Shaw is a big blue cheat!", The Doctor, "The Woman Who Fell to Earth" In Tzim-Sha, we have a potential leader of his race who is so insecure that he is cheating on the the ritual test set for him. That's quite a rare antagonist in a story. "Why is she running at another alien?", Graham, "The Woman Who Fell to Earth" I'm happy that you are able to understand the new accents we're hearing. The new cast are using a variety of British accents, so I was a bit concerned you might struggle to understand some of the dialog. I do like the three characters we've met too. "Is it wrong to be enjoying this?", Grace, "The Woman Who Fell to Earth" The death of Grace was shocking. (And we should also remember the nice security guard.) But back to Grace - in early New Who, we would expect there to be a sweet family group for our companion(s) to use as an excuse to come back to Earth. But the death of Grace, rips that away. And we see a funeral - story consequences like that don't happen very often. Finally, I do liked the audacity to have a cinematic-style New Who TV episode where the Doctor has to jump between two crane-arms to save the day. "Swiss Army sonic, now with added Sheffield steel.", The Doctor, "The Woman Who Fell to Earth" I am happy to keep going with our new Doctor and see how it works out.

Ok I watched this reaction the other day but I've only just got my laptop back so now I'll comment. First off I was right about last weeks episode being in my top 20. It's 14th/140. This weeks is ranked 90th/140 so a bit of a drop. I rate it 4/5. It's above average. Not amazing but good for an opening story. I love the Doctor's new outfit, I have the t-shirt and coat. Although like you I was also unsure on the bottoms. I'm hoping like or dislike you'll stick with the show. Also IIRC you said there are 2 series left before you catch up? There is a little bit more than that but I'm sure Andrew will update you as needed.

I have never heard anything about "The Devils hour", sounds interesting. Unfortunately I do not have Amazon Prime anymore and no desire to ever invest in that company again. Maybe I´ll find it on another Streaming Service, or I have to wait until the new Season of Good Omen aires, cause then I´ll be obligated to make a subscription again. Thank you anyways, I´ll look if I can find it somewhere else. :)

Thank you :) I had the feeling they are about to make big changes in the show. I think I said that in my review last week. Because having a female doctor, speaks of creativity, and people who are that creative and open minded surely are not satisfied with one change only. We´ll just have to see if it´s for better or worse. I get what you mean by "It felt distancing", I had the same feeling while watching. And also while editing. Tbh it got even worse while editing. I really hope that feeling goes away with the next episode. Love Dr. Who, and don´t want to lose it. I didn´t recognize Jodie although I remember that Black Mirror episode. I jst can´t remember her face beeing in it :)

Nicologik

Yes I noticed the different music style as well. I agree with your opinion about the episode. Never heard of Bradley Walsh before, no wonder I didn´t recognize him in this episode. :)

Nicologik

Agree with your opinion and learned the word "woolly" that I didn´t know before, thanks :)

It's not a deserted site. The Doctor gets Graham and Grace to clear the staff away, which we briefly see.

Despite the lowkey story (for Doctor Who,that is!) I rather like this one. The tonal shift makes it very clear that the new producton team want very much to take the series in a different direction; but, after just this one story, its unclear whether that will be a good or bad thing. The plot is a little woolly, and doesn't make a lot of sense (e.g. why would a crane operator work at night in a deserted building site?) but it was a decent introduction to all the new characters. An 8 out of 10 for me.

I was interested to see how you would react to this. This feels like more of a reboot than any previous series. I don’t know if you noticed the music is very different. Murray Gold who had scored all new who up and till now is gone and in his place is Segun Akinola with very darker themes which I quite like. This contributes a very different atmosphere to the episode. I agree with you the episode is way too long. I watched it again a couple of weeks ago. The story is a bit of a nothing burger, but that’s often the case with a new doctor. It’s a shame that Grace died because she was the best part of it imo. Of course it takes time to break in a new doctor, and I like Jodie as an actress. The big surprise for me was Bradley Walsh, who if you are not aware is a well known game show host here in Britain. He is also an actor, and when he was announced for the show I wasn’t sure about the wisdom of his casting. However I was proved wrong, I think his speech at Grace’s funeral is very nicely done. All in all I think your rating is about right. Onwards and upwards. xx

A good reaction to a very different style of Doctor Who to the sort we were used to. Before this series started, another You Tube blogger said that he hoped they wouldn't change too much about the programme in addition to having the first female Doctor. Because anything new about it that people didn't like might be blamed on that one specific change. In the event, of course, Chris Chibnall changed almost everything except the basic premise. Four (initially) companions, a new, filmic look to the show, a different City to set it in, an antagonist we hadn't seen before and some very dark themes. And, in this episode there wasn't even a Tardis. I can remember watching this episode at my sister's house when it was first broadcast. I did notice the higher production values and, yes, it did seem more film-like. In some ways I found that a bit distancing. Not sure if that is the right word but it's still the best I can do. I liked all the side characters especially Grace and Graham. Grace was my favourite and I was mortified when she died near the end of the programme. This is the first time in ages that I have watched the whole thing again and I was surprised at how affecting that incident still was. Plus Graham's funeral oration and Ryan's blog. So - quite a bold beginning, which takes a bit of getting used to. I would rate it a bit higher than you did and I don't find it too long. Generally I like the dialogues although that line a bout "only idiots carry knives" was really clunky. I appreciate that they were trying to send a positive message to any young people watching but it was so self-conscious and worthy sounding that I doubt anyone would have taken it on board. You have probably seen Jodie before in the first series of Black Mirror. The one where people can record all their experiences and replay them. It was called "The Entire History of You". I won't say anything about the rest of the series except that, like all the series, the individual episodes vary quite widely in tone and style. And I enjoyed some of them much more than others. There you are. That has told you nothing....

Hi Nicole just before I dive into your reaction I have been watching The Devils Hour. Starring our very own Peter, don’t know if you have seen/heard of it ? It is very good you can find it on Amazon prime. It’s free in the UK (don’t know about Germany) but I highly recommend it if you haven’t seen it. xx
